Dow 10570?
« Reply #81 on: July 11, 2008, 04:27:52 PM »
All right -- new policy.

As I said a few posts back, I'm counting on the power of Pittsburgh, represented by "57," to hold us back from just four digits and to keep at least 51% of the difference between 11111 and 9999.  So -- new floor is 10570.

Now that I'm here, I better appreciate the symbolism.  "11111" suggests that at least the fundamentals are all in order.  But maybe there are holes -- zeroes -- in the fundamentals ...

You don't have a pension then?

Pensions are approaching extinction in the U.S.  The only people who are in pension plans are some government workers and politicians.

Most who have company retirement plans are in 401K's which are often heavily invested in stock-based mutual funds, however.

Yep.  Which is why I am...not losing a tear over the stock market situation.  Since our country is so busy sucking ass to China since our major CEOs and stock prices are connected to outsourcing, and when they act against our major interests, as they have again in Zimbabwe, and during any "trade talk" no one in our government ever thinks it's a problem.

We're a puppet country run by the rich, paying the reelection bids of the rich.

We've long since stopped being a country by the people, FOR the people.

(Always interesting to see a thread take on its own life ... )

Clearly I had the wrong idea when I chose the symbolism of a floor of 11111.  That was supposed to mean "Well, at least all fundamentals should be in place."  But now I'm beginning to think I should have questioned the fundamentals as well, which means gaps represented by zeros.  I should have gone with, say, 11011.

Too late for that now -- although if we DO stop short of 11011, remember where you heard that suggested first ...

I was sort of hoping for 11011, but it fell through that.  So I figured, this economy has TWO zeros shot through its fundamentals, suggesting to me the palindrome 10901 -- but it just now fell through that, too!

At this rate, I can think of no rationales for palindromes like 10801 and so forth.  So I'm going to dig in my heels at a floor of 10570 -- like I suggested earlier -- and cross my fingers.

What is going to be the most interesting call is where the bottom of this market is?

On the London market there are other indices (FTSE 250) that reflex small and medium companies.  These may be a better bellwether of the economy than The Dow and The FTSE 100.  Not sure what the equivalent is in the US to the FTSE 250 in London?

We've got NASDAQ, Standard and Poor, and I'm sure others.

The DJIA is indeed feeling old, especially with the now conspicuous membership of General Motors ...
