STFU (stah-foo)

I don't know if its my favorite necessarily, but it gets points for frequency of use

Similar = PACII (pah-kee-ee) (sounds Hawaiian) which stands for "put a cork in it".  Reserved for more genteel company.

High Intensity Treatment (HIT) for a kind of in situ environmental remediation method.

I suggested we improve upon it, and call OURS "Special High Intensity Treatment" and if it doesn't completely do the job the first time, use MORE "Special High Intensity Treatment."

I'm just WAITING for the explanation for that ...

THRUSH: Technological Hierarchy for the Removal of Undesirables and the Subjugation of Humanity.  Archenemy of Napoleon Solo.

A distant second is ZOWIE, Zonal Organization World Intelligence Espionage, employer of Derek Flint.

I was also fairly cool with SHADO, Supreme Headquarters Alien Defence Organization, what the old British TV show UFO was all about.

Me loves me spy stuff.

I saw my share of acronyms in the military, but my favorite HAS to be..

TWAIN: Technology Without An Interesting Name I kid you not, that's what it stands for!

FYI, it has to do with computer software/hardware that interfaces with scanners.
Thank you for your patience as I indulge my need to share.

The ground is deep with fallen leaves and nuts of White and Red Oak, and of Beech, that line and fill the footprints and the ruts which all along the wooded pathway reach. First claim, of course, to chipmunk and to squirrel for bleak mid-Winter sustenance belongs, as all around old leaves descend and twirl about, through feathered autumn songs.

Yes, that one is definitely one of my favorites. It's one of the cleverest self-referential acronyms by far.

In contrast, acronyms like GNU (which stands for "GNU's Not Unix") just make me scratch my head in annoyance.
