Meanwhile, everyone is in a tizzy.....
1. FBI Director John Comey sends a letter to a few key congressmen - chairs of committees, mostly. In this brief and guarded letter, he notes that an investigation in a completely unrelated matter turned up some e-mails that might have bearing on the Clinton e-mail kerfuffle. So he just wants to give them a heads up, in case anything relevant is found. Comey quite clearly states that he is doing this just as a friendly note, which is understandable given how Congress grilled him this summer and he'd probably not want to get accused of "hiding" anything.
"We don't ordinarily tell Congress about ongoing investigations, but here I feel an obligation to do so given that I testified repeatedly in recent months that our investigation was completed," Comey said. "I also think it would be misleading to the American people were we not to supplement the record."
2. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, who is a known Clinton hater (he's stated that he intends to launch years of investigations of Clinton ("Even before we get to Day One, we've got two years' worth of material already lined up. She has four years of history at the State Department, and it ain't good.", he told the Washington Post)) tweets "'The FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation.' Case reopened".
3. The media go bonkers, screaming that the e-mail investigation is reopened. Which is NOT true.....
4. Trump jumps on it while the Clinton campaign staggers in shock.
5. Details come out. Seems that the FBI's investigation of Anthony Weiner's sex scandal found that his wife, Huma Abedin, used the same laptop that he did for some of her e-mail. Since Abedin is a key Clinton advisor, the FBI naturally wants to give those e-mails a look.
6. Media outlets quickly edit their headlines....
7. Clinton, her campaign, and several Democrats rip Comey a new one for being so careless as to let this get out so close to the election.
8. Comey wishes he made a different career choice somewhere along the line.....
Personally, I don't think this will have much effect. At least not enough to make Drumpf president. I'd wager that A) There won't be anything new revealed and 2) people have had so much of this e-mail mess that they've already made up their minds about it and won't be swayed by anything new.
