Tell me about it. A little-known politician with a funny name hasn't done anything like that in over 70 years.

Finally, starting to get some good Obama material on the cartoon circuit.

Get most of your news from television and all you'll know is what the anchorette info babes (& guys) spin your way! (Maddow, Costello, Sawyer, Brzezinski, Mitchell, Scarborough, etc.  )

Get most of your news from television comics (Behar, O'Donnell, Stewart, Colbert, Sharpton, Letterman, Maher, Whoopi, etc.) and all you'll know is sarcasm and mordacity.

The cartoon on the lower-right hand is just wrong. Obama didn't cause the economy to tank.

Speaking of people that are just wrong:
Quote:

"Coulter Falls For Fake Obama NASCAR Story That Limbaugh Said No One Would Believe"

As an April Fool’s joke, Car and Driver magazine posted a a made-up story on its website claiming that "President Obama had ordered Chevrolet and Dodge out of NASCAR after the 2009 season." The magazine "pulled the fake story" after it "turned into a sizzling Internet topic," especially on anti-Obama right-wing websites.

As Media Matters notes, one person who took the joking claim seriously was Ann Coulter. In her Human Events column yesterday, Coulter wrote:
Quote:

If Obama can tell GM and Chrysler that their participation in NASCAR is an "unnecessary expenditure," isn’t having public schools force students to follow Muslim rituals, recite Islamic prayers and plan "jihads" also an “unnecessary expenditure”? Are all those school condom purchases considered “necessary expenditures”?

Coulter’s gullibility is especially funny considering that on his radio show yesterday, right-wing icon Rush Limbaugh mocked those who would fall for Car and Driver’s April Fool’s Day joke:
Quote:

Every professional practical joker such as myself knows: If you really want to pull something off, don’t do it on a day where people are going to immediately doubt it. It’s absolutely silly. Car and Driver has a phony page on the website saying Obama has banned Ford, Chevy, and a bunch of others from NASCAR.

Well, now, who’s going to believe this? Well, that’s not the quite proper way to ask it. All good comedy requires an element of truth in it, and obviously there are people that believe this could come down the pike. But it hasn’t yet. Run this story tomorrow, if you want to play a practical joke on people.

As of this posting, Human Events has not corrected Coulter’s column.

Speaking of people who were wrong, again:
Quote:

"Journalists get shock with 'sexy' White House call"

Journalists based in the United States got a shock Thursday when they dialed a toll-free number to join a conference call with senior officials accompanying US President Barack Obama in London.

The number turned out to be a sex chat line inviting callers to use their credit card numbers.

"Do you have any hidden desires?" a sultry voiced woman asked.

"Well, do you feel like getting nasty? Then you came to the right place -- brought to you by the girls of Swank magazine," she said.

Reporters finally got through to the two officials in London -- National Security Advisor James Jones and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton -- when they gave up on the US "800" number and instead dialed an international number.

The White House did not offer an explanation when asked how it sent the wrong number in an email listing both numbers -- one for journalists in the United States and the other for those overseas.

"Lots of important issues to cover today!" Thomas Vietor, a White House spokesman, told AFP when asked about the mistake in a follow-up email.

When pressed further about the number, Vietor replied: "I haven't dialed whatever number you're referencing. Please call such numbers on your free time!"

Jones and Clinton were being interviewed about the NATO summit on Friday in Strasbourg, but the contents of the call cannot be released until 0400 GMT, in line with rules stipulated by the White House.

"Sex" and "Clinton"; they go together like peanut butter and jelly

It's idiots like this who give the NRA an even worse name than they may already have:
Quote:

Yahoo! News: "Gunman 'lying in wait' kills 3 Pittsburgh officers"

A gunman wearing a bulletproof vest and "lying in wait" opened fire on officers responding to a domestic disturbance call Saturday, killing three of them and turning a quiet Pittsburgh street into a battlefield, police said.

Police Chief Nate Harper said the motive for the shooting isn't clear, but friends said the gunman recently had been upset about losing his job and feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns.

Richard Poplawski, 23, met officers at the doorway and shot two of them in the head immediately, Harper said. An officer who tried to help the two also was killed.

Poplawski, armed with an assault rifle and two other guns, then held police at bay for four hours as the fallen officers were left bleeding nearby, their colleagues unable to reach them, according to police and witnesses. More than 100 rounds were fired by the SWAT teams and Poplawski, Harper said...

Poplawski had feared "the Obama gun ban that's on the way" and "didn't like our rights being infringed upon," said Edward Perkovic, his best friend.

Perkovic, 22, said he got a call at work from him in which he said, "Eddie, I am going to die today. ... Tell your family I love them and I love you."

Perkovic said: "I heard gunshots and he hung up. ... He sounded like he was in pain, like he got shot."

Poplawski had once tried to join the Marines, but was kicked out of boot camp after throwing a food tray at a drill sergeant, Perkovic said.

Another longtime friend, Aaron Vire, said Poplawski feared that President Barack Obama was going to take away his rights, though he said he "wasn't violently against Obama."

Vire, 23, said Poplawski once had an Internet talk show but that it wasn't successful. He said Poplawski owned an AK-47 rifle and several powerful handguns, including a .357 Magnum.

Obama has said he respects Americans' constitutional right to bear arms, but that he favors "common sense" gun laws. Gun rights advocates interpret that as meaning he would approve some curbs on assault and concealed weapons..."

You fear that the president will take away your guns, so what do you do? You grab a few and shoot up some policemen. Real good thinking there, nimrod.

I bet Poplawski was short. Give a short guy a gun, and you've just thrown gas on the fire of inadequacy.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again:  killing innocent people isn't what law-abiding gun owners do to protest anti-gun laws.  I'm sure this asshole would've used a kitchen knife if he were able.

The "any bad gunman could precisely as easily have used a knife" claim never persuades me.  Guns make killing so much easier.  That's sort of the reason why the gun was invented.  It's an cute claim, the "bad gunman minus gun equals knifer" assertion, but has anyone ever actually proven it as consistent behavior in killers?  Just wondering.

The Poplawski incident happened in my home town.  As I left Palm Sunday Mass, I noticed a police officer coming in for the next Mass.  If you want to assure that officer that Poplawski could just as easily have killed three and injured two with a knife, go ahead.

On another note, does anyone wish to chime in about N. Korea's missile launch?

 CNN:  N. Korea's missile launch
I'm not suprised with all weak diplomacy and grand-standing of Japan, S. Korea and the U.S., none shot it down.

Seriously, WTF does N. Korea need a satelite anyway?  There isn't any food up there to feed their people...oh wait, they're not looking to feed people!

I'm sorry to hear that your hometown was affected by this.  I've no experience with gun violence, so I'm not going to presume I know what you think or feel.

Are you saying, along with many others here, that if you take away guns, people will stop killing each other?  I blame the economy.  If people weren't so desperate beyond insanity, murders would go down.  Better economics, not disarmament, will save the world.

I thought this was the Barack Obama thread.  I posted the gun statement a while back because of his and his administration's anti-gun stance.  Now it's up to Zookie to post news links of every gun violence article to what effect?

Illegal drug use probably kills more people than guns do, but there's no fucking outcry here for that!      I bet there are more drug users here on the Forum than gun owners!  lol
