USS Spruance (DD-963) was the first truly modern US Navy destroyer class of 31 ships built from 1972 to 1983 and was the first gas turbine ship class of the US Navy using a modified 747 aircraft engines for propulsion. The Spruance class was named after Admiral Raymond Spruance who led the fleet into the victory over Japan on the Battle of Midway. This class of destroyers replaced many of the World War 2 destroyers that remained in the fleet at that time. I remember watching her cruise past the Point Loma Submarine base in San Diego when I was stationed there back in the 70's and 80's.

In New Zealand, where the movie set had been created for The Shire for LOTR, there’s been a recreation built for tourists.  This is a street sign in Hobbiton.

Actually, that's not a recreation, when they finished the shooting on LoTR, they left the set as a tourist attraction.  They were then able to re-use it, with just a few touch ups, for filming The Hobbit.  It's just outside a place called Matamata.  So you can go see the original set, which is bloody cool.  I think you might even be able to get a drink at the Green Dragon.

USS Texas (BB-35) near the site of the battle of San Jacinto where Texas got its independence from Mexico. The Texas was commissioned on March 12, 1914, was the first battleship in the world with 14 inch guns and she is the only war museum ship which was in World War 1 and World War 2 and the oldest steel ship museum ship.
