Going on steroids
« on: October 23, 2008, 11:50:18 AM »
Thank goodness I don't play professional ball.

Actually, it's on doctor's orders: a three-day treatment regimen of cortisone to try to deal with the effects (and maybe some of the causes) of Graves' disease, a.k.a. Basedow's disease.  Getting pumped chock-full of steroids: not something I'm remotely looking forward to.

Going to get word tonight on whether I can do this on an outpatient basis, or whether I have to stay in the hospital for three days doing nothing but watch the stuff drip into my arm.

Wish me luck.  I need lots.

"Historians have a word for Germans who joined the Nazi party, not because they hated Jews, but out of a hope for restored patriotism, or a sense of economic anxiety, or a hope to preserve their religious values, or dislike of their opponents, or raw political opportunism, or convenience, or ignorance, or greed.

"That word is 'Nazi.' Nobody cares about their motives anymore."

Cortisone isn't that big a deal and there's usually no need to be hospitalized to get it unless they need to observe you for other reasons. I'm sure it'll be fine... you shouldn't worry too much... it's a standard anti-inflamatory given for a wide variety of conditions... you won't become a muscle-man (not that kind of steroid ) nor will your skin break out or anything. Take it easy and just rest and think about getting better.

A couple years back I had plantar fasciitis and I had steroids injected into my foot to alleviate it, it worked out okay.  Chin up, and feel free to keep us posted.

Just had 3 rounds of Cortizone injected into 3 discs in my neck, no big problem.  Next day, pain was considerably less and I had a lot more range of motion.
