Thanksgiving
« on: November 15, 2008, 10:37:04 AM »
Is thanksgiving only celebrated in the US?

Here in England we do have harvest festival, which is more or less the same thing, but it’s not really celebrated at all these days.
Lipsmacking, thirst quenching, ace tasting, motivating, good buzzing, cool talking, high walking, fast living, ever giving, cool fizzing... #BOOBs

Thanksgiving is also celebrated in Canada, but earlier in October.  Speaking of which...
Oktberfest is celebrated in Germany and German speaking populations throughout the world.

Um.  Yeah, it is, but much earlier and for a completely unrelated reason.

Thanksgiving is a US creation, basically, and celebration.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.  Unless you have to eat overcooked turkey.  And then you have my sympathies.

Thanksgiving is when we Americans celebrate our glorious military victory over our pagan, heathen Indian oppressors.

No, thanksgiving as we have it now is simply to give thanks to God for the good things we have in life. In 1863, during the civil war ( 1861-1865 ), President Lincoln standardize into the fourth thursday of November a day of thanks to the almighty. Yes, there were Thanksgiving celebrations before then, but it was to celebrate the survival of the first year in the new world thanks to the assistance of the then friendly natives. It was not a celebration of military prowess. The revisionism nowadays is simply pathetic.

What is so Republican of what I posted?   When the first thanksgiving was celebrated in Plymouth colony, the puritans were in no condition for any type of military endevor. More than 2/3 perished in the first year and the rest would have died without the assistance of the indians. What is so Republican about that ?

I suppose that Halloween is a democratic holiday, for giving away free candies???

Honestly, have we become that divided, in separating our holiday by party line?

No, no, don't listen to these fools.  Thanksgiving is when we Americans celebrate our military might.  Centuries ago, we ate the human flesh of our enemies on Thanksgiving, but political correctness took over and now we have to settle for turducken.

If it's all the same, Bill, I'll take human flesh.

In fact, I have a Thanksgiving tradition. One of my secret vices is that I'm involved with a group of female martial artists. Every year my wife and daughter go to a tournament in Hawaii. So for Thanksgiving I have dinner with a lesbian social worker friend. We rotate among East Indian, Chinese, and Thai food. It is s-o-o-o-o-o much better than trying to cope with either of our families.

PS-- Yes, lesbians do like to gossip about hot chicks.
Someday, chi1dren, this entire fuck-up will be yours.

Besides breasts, what are you thankful for this year?

Well, all right, including breasts. An oldie but a goodie, in the spirit of holiday basting:
