Battle Over Bras For Bigger Busts

Large-chested women are taking on Marks and Spencer over its policy of charging more for bigger bras.

Beckie Williams has bought a £3.40 share in the company to allow her to confront chairman Sir Stuart Rose at the next annual meeting in July.

The founder of **24** group "Busts 4 Justice" wants Marks and Spencer to end its "unfair" policy of charging an extra £2 for bras sized over a DD cup.

Marks and Spencer says larger bras cost more as they require more work.

Miss Williams, a 30G, said she was "surprised and very disappointed" when the company said it wouldn't budge on the policy.

'Competitively priced'

"It wouldn't have been a massive concession for them to do it. They won't listen to me as a customer but they might listen to me as a shareholder."

Miss Williams, from Brighton, said the company had a complacent attitude over its pricing and said other lingerie shops did not make people pay more for larger bras.

She said: "It's ridiculous. You don't do it for other items of clothing so I don't understand the logic.

"We do go to other shops but Marks and Spencer have the biggest share in the lingerie market in the country."

Busts 4 Justice now has more than 8,000 members.

Marks and Spencer said its range was the "most competitively priced on the high street".

A spokesman said: "Our customers have told us they are happy to pay a small premium for the specialist work to ensure suitable level of support, innovation and technology that goes into the bras.

"Our bras are much less expensive than many other specialist larger cup size lingerie retailers."

It seems that bigger British ladies are fed up paying over the top for their bras.

I wonder if they's consider a contribution in return for access rights? :-)

She's buying shares in the company and petitioning meetings to complain about having to pay an extra 2 pounds, even though the reason for the extra cost makes perfect sense?

While paying more for more material makes sense, it is not practiced in other types of clothing. Think about shoes, every size is the same price.

That is true on some items, but I have noticed when looking online at clothing that they price XXL and up more.  Not always but it is done.  Logically it does make sense. More material = higher price.  If you go to a restaurant you pay more for the 16oz prime rib than the 14oz.

I would say the extra cost is justified. I think the bigger pain in the ass is actually finding the size you need rather than the cost of it.

I think they should practice social engineering and charge  less for the bigger bras. Wouldn't that be great? One less excuse to run to the B/R surgeons.

It's not just more material, they make a lot less of them and therefore reap less of the financial benefits that come from mass production. Shoes definitely get more expensive when you get into the range of size that is as uncommon as a 30G is, and they charge more extra than a couple bucks.

Does a 30G have more material than a 40D?

I wonder if a group of those members are going to show up in front of the shareholder meeting to ralley - now that would be a group worth supporting

Martin,
Indeed, this is the most poignant question here!  There is no discrimination against the same amount of cup material with a larger band.  Perhaps portly women make up a larger portion of their market than slim n stacked busty young cuties?  I would dare to say so.

But if they're going to cater to "our" market, they should do so fairly.  YMMV!

Best regards,

Bone...

Pic from a bigger bra event in LA. Thats Diana on the left, look familiar? She starred on How To Look Good Naked a few years back -she was reduced to tears at the sight of her huge udders (her words) in the mirror and referred to herself as a "big milking cow". Guess she got over it.

If I knew it'd get this bad, I'd have volunteered to moderate and promptly euthanized the forum.
