Clouds rolling in now...Hoping they hold off. Here are a few more details for you:

Look east starting at 12 midnight central time. Leo will be crossing the horizon (this is the radiant for this evenings show). The showers are expected to be most brilliant at 4 am central time with the hopes it will become a meteor storm (a potential for 2125 meteors in an hour) when it will be directly overhead.

I'm planning on heading about an hour out of town and setting up the camera. I havent tried this type of shot before, so it will be a learning experience.

Leaving the city lights for the country side to get a clear view in about 4 hours. 98 years is just a little beyond my lifespan.

didn't any of you vidcap addicts ever watch "Day of the Triffids" ?  Just because there wasn't a BE scene in that movie doesn't mean you shouldn't pay attention to the possibility brought up by the story line ...

What this? Radioactive particles drift to earth from the meteors and enlarge women's breast size.....hmmmmmmmmm.
There's no such thing as too much of a good thing.

Best way to watch the shower in the sky is lying next to Sable and viewing the action through a bedroom sky window, right?

Vintner, my only suggestion is to remove any skylight or uv filters from the camera. (They cut out much of the bandwidth emitted from a meteor shower.)

Oh yeah. Hold really still, too.

Thanks Sable. I can't get that song out of my head now...Na Na Na Na Noooo....

Sable,

I'm working overnight tonight and plan to go up to the roof and see the fireworks around 4am.  I'm downtown so the lights may hinder the view but I hope I can catch a glimpse of the meteor shower.  I love stargazing and NASA/sci-fi stuff so I've been looking forward to this for quite some time.

If you're out gazing at that time, blow me a kiss and I'll do the same for you!!

BTW, I plan on making 100 or so wishes while I'm out there too.       If I wish for a date with you, will you grant it for me?

Wishing I had my own starship,
Redtalon

well, i just got back from attempting to see it.  I drove as far away from city lights as I could but still was cloudy to see anything.  That sucks, once in a life time chance missed.  another 99 years, jeeze, that means i have a better chance of hookin up with sable than I do of seeing this again, oh well, i guess that is a bright way of lookin at it

wowwwwwwwwww, coooooooooooollllllll...

it's 6:05am in north carolina now (i don't know what the hell time zone this forum thinks it's in), and i just came in to warm up, get a cup of coffee, and give my neck muscles a chance to stretch back out.

the shower's only moderately impressive from here (i'm not far enough away from the city, i think, so i'm probably not seeing the small, subtle ones)...  saw a nice little burst of about 10 within a 5-second time-span at one point, though.

thanks for reminding us, sable!
