Wasn't to bad . If you were expecting something like Hollywood makes you probably were very disappointed. Saw some of those flash's when it was clouded over. When it cleared you had to be quick 'cause they were fast. The best I saw was one that appeared to split into smaller pieces. About this time a couple weeks ago I was lucky enough to see the aurora borealis (northern lights). That was pretty cool and I was in my a nice warm car driving a deserted county highway. Yes my ass is froze too. Time for something hot also. LOL
She should make one of them stolen home videos.

Well 5:33 here in New Orleans. I think it's over now. Saw some good fluries but kept making the same wish: I wish that damn haze would clear up better. I could see some of the bigger ones through the haze every 2 minutes or so and when the haze cleared once in a while I could see bursts of as many as 8 per second every 5 minutes or so for half an hour. I saw two real cool ones. One big one blew up in flight and one was two right at the same time in opposite directions coming from between the two center stars in Leo. It was worth seeing for a once in a lifetime for a patient person. But kind of a teaze waiting 5-10 minutes for a good flurry and then the haze thickening up just as it gets good.

Wonder what the Perseids are going to be like.

I watched it from the far NW side of Tucson from the roof of a friend's house.  Simply amazing!  Far enough out of the city to get away from the light pollution, and the clear skies of Tucson to seal the deal.  At some points during the early morning, it seemed like there were more than a meteor a second burning a streak across the sky.  I hope there were some other fortunate people to winess ths as I did.  If not, it'll happen again, so keep looking up!

At 9 PM I went out to check the seeing, and it was perfect. At midnight, the stars disappeared behind a screen of fog. By 4 PM you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. My record of missing meteor showers due to weather remains perfect.

Meteors, a glory of light,
mute death of starlings in rare display,
hid above the cloud sea.

In rural southern Ohio, I saw more than 300 meteors from 4:15 AM to 5:45 AM. Great show!

GOOD MORNING STAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRR SHYYYYNN
yES THOSE ARE THE WORDS LOL   lolrofwithdogs
anyway! I'm sorry for the guys that missed it because of the weather, and clouds
Here in the holler, S.E. North Carolina, It was very very cool! I went outside about 4 am
some friends came over to gaze with me, as I have the best backyard 5 acres 2 of which are open field, I got the lounge chair, bundled up, elmer fudd hat,lol it was cold, but clear
When I started to look up and WOW   they were all over the place! it was  soooo cool there were lots of little ones so many I couldn't count, and yes a few gaps in between, but sometime 3 or 4 at a time, and not really in one particular place/direction, so you had to be ready!and me and my friends were screaming like girls  hee heee, with excitment! the best one was HUGE with a green tail and then haze that lasted for over 1 minute! And I wished too, that there would be more! We watched till around 6 when it started to get light out, and the show was over
I can't say how many I saw, if I guessed it woould be 1000 or so, in 2 hours! Well worth the price of admission! I guess the best things in life are free.   thank's for your feedback ya'll! have a great day!
P.s. thanks for the map SAMU, lol watch out for the clingons around Uranus.... ha ha ha

No filters of course. Wide angle lense. Tripod and cable release for sure. The cloud cover was hit and miss. Still managed to shoot 18 with exposues ranging from 1-10 min. It was a great night to be out all around. I saw several hundred streaks, the owls chorus was in full swing, the temp was in the low to mid 50's, and not another soul came down the road.    I'll let you know how they turn out. Unfortunatly I can't scan them in.

Hey Vintner:

Be carefull where you take them to be developed.  The last time I took my meteor pictures to tohe local fotomat I put "Print All, Astrophotography" on the outside of the envelope.  When I went back for the prints the dweeb behind the counter told me that they threw the negatives away because nothing came out but a bunch of dots.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took them to the same pro lab I've used for a few years. I have always gotten my negs back, even if the prints don't fly.

If you want to read a thread I posted at badastronomy.com
http://www.badastronomy.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?topic=111&forum=3&170

It's about my speculation that the Apollo 13 accident was a hoax.

It's running ahead of the Sable hay hay thread and the love doll thread with 170 replys and that board also displays the number of views at 2730.

Well, the Geminids are visible again tonight if your skies aren't overcast like mine (again)     These are unique in that they are part of an asteroid's debris field (the particles are larger and denser than a comet's, hence they burn longer) They were supposed to have peaked last night at a rate of 120-200 per hour starting as early as ten pm here in the midwest. *sigh* It looks like I'll miss out on another astronomical phenomenon today, as well, because of cloud cover. Starting around 3pm central there will be a partial eclipse of the sun.

Here is a pointer for all you boob hounds...if you ever want to look at large breasts again, do not look directly into the sun during a solar eclipse.

(There. A seamless tie-in to make this thread on-topic!)
