Jonestown. (On November 18. 1978, 918 followers of "preacher" Jim Jones where massacred when they drank poisoned Kool-Aid at the behest of Jim Jones in one of the largest murder-suicide incidents in world history. Jonestown, Guyana is forever stained by a bunch of idiotic people from San Francisco who blindly followed an evil man. The expression drink1ng the Kool-Aid comes from this incident. Kool-Aid sales have never recovered since. The product is still sold but it is not as popular as when I was a kid back in the 60's)

Flavor Aid

"Although Jones used poisoned Flavor Aid, the drink mix was also commonly (mistakenly) referred to as Kool-Aid. This has led to the phrase 'drin king the Kool-Aid', referring to a person or group holding an unquestioned belief, argument, or philosophy without critical examination."

Kool-Aid remains as popular as ever; in 2021, it was the 16th most-popular non-alcoholic beverage brand in the United States, more popular than Coca-Cola (#21), or Pepsi-Cola (#20), or Gatorade (#18).
