I applied for a Unix admin job a couple of weeks ago. I had a phone interview that went well and then had an in-person interview. That went well too. When the guy from the placement agency called me he said that "...they thought you were perfect technically for the job but they weren't sure you wanted it." Apparently I wans't enthusiastic during the interview. There were 2 spots and 1 of them is filled. And now they want to "...interview a couple more people before they decide at the end of the week."
What the fuck? I'm perfect for the job but I don't brighten their day up enough? So they're hoping they find find someone they like better by the end of the week so they don't have to hire me? Why would they actually tell me this? Why not just say that they're still interviewing and will decide when they're done? What the hell kind of fucked up retarded bullshit is this?
Yeah, it sucks -- but at least you know they're still looking for someone to fill that spot. So knowing this, the question is: how badly do you want that job? Do I think they're stupid to think that they're weren't sure if you wanted the job (despite going for TWO INTERVIEWS)? Yeah -- but since apparently anyone who doesn't jump on a couch like Tom Cruise is deemed to not want the job enough, you have to go down there in person and TELL THEM in short sentences that, yes, you DO want the job, and in fact, you DEMAND for the job, and that RIGHT NOW.
I guess they don't know the difference between someone with a laid-back attitude, and someone who is unenthusiastic about getting employed. I hope they DO hire you, and I hope that you run them into the ground

Meanwhile, I applied for a job about a month and a half ago, and I've yet to hear bupkiss from them. I will call them up tomorrow and ask WTF is going on -- I know they have NOT been swamped with applications, for a fact. I think it's extremely unprofessional for a person who advertises a job offering to not at least email the applicants on the current status, when you only were considering four people!
