I've been sorta kinda looking for a gig. The best job sites I've found are simplyhired.com and jobcentral.com. However, I usually skip the middle man and go directly to the company website. If I saw a job I absolutely had to have (unlikely), I would probably just show up at the HR department and tell them to hire me.

Uh, does that mean your forum posts are part of a job?   ;)

I'm doing translation work at the same time generally ;)

I remember once I got a cold call from a recruiter who'd seen my resume on one of the big job sites. They went on and on about their client who had this position, blah blah blah, so I just asked them, "Oh, is the position with <some company>? I don't want to duplicate my efforts since I applied there already", and then the recruiter went "No, the position is with <some other company>". To which I said, "Oh, thanks for the heads-up". I hung up and then called <some other company> directly -- it definitely helped to know that they had an opening that they wanted to fill immediately. One instance in which a recruiter actually helped me with a good lead :)

Hey, looking for work nowadays is a job in itself!

Had interview recently.  I had three major points I wanted to make about myself... but the interviewer actually hit on all 3 points as "things I'm looking for" BEFORE I was able to get my little speech out!

So frustrating!

Because then, when I did my speech... it appeared like I was saying exactly what the interviewer had just stated she wanted to hear, i.e. insincere and unoriginal!!

And that job was my dream job too.  Arggg.   >:(

But there's still hope.  She seemed to warm up to me, and IMHO, 99% of it is just a popularity contest anyway.  I think 99% of it is the employer/office manager just looking for someone they feel they can train and get along with and joke around with and connect with.

Yes, they like the young ones. But at least you got an interview, and that's a success in itself. Good luck!

My experience is they don't want TOO young, because most of the people making the hiring decisions are 45-55, and they don't relate well to the 21-25 yr olds, because the 21-25 yr olds are the first TRUE internet generation (i.e. they had intense, massive internet/computer exposure starting in high school).

My generation (somewhat caught between GenX and GenY) is people who learned internet/computer in college or later, and some of us didn't really become adept ever, or until very recently.  We don't really have the innate "figure internet/electronic stuff out" characteristic that most GenY have.

I think history will record this time as an abrupt shift.  Much like it must've been strange for the older people to relate to the first generation of Americans who drove a car on their 16th birthday.

Also, sadly, i believe there has been a MASSIVE "dumbing down of America" over past 20 years, but its effects are seen most in the GenY generation.  Some of them, who seemingly have great grades, great stats, great resumes, etc. are actually IDIOTS.  Its really sad.  I think the schools have a new stupid idea that "everybody can be right in their own way" and of course the infamous "grade inflation" which is real.

And also, i HATE that so many people now take massive tutoring and massive PREP-type courses for taking certain grad school **103** exams (like MCAT or LSAT).   By doing so, those idiots do much better than historically their IQ has done, thereby flooding the med and law schools with morons.

The truth is I've shot myself in the foot so many times...

Although I desperately try to blame and hate the young people, bitterly resent their youth, energy, vigor and intelligence, and bask in my own self-righteous pity and petty jealousies... deep down I know its my own damn fault.

Or at least on the massive LIST of grievances I have against the world, "hating GenY people" is not even in the Top Ten right now.

Remember that scene in "It's a Wonderful Life," where old man Potter offers George Bailey a job?

I just requested, and have been granted, an interview with the CEO of a huge, soul-sucking corporation I walked away from four years ago. It was so bad that I came home very night and got **92**, I hated myself so much.

But one has to eat. So thank you, Mr. Potter! I hope you can find a place for me.

They may be making the decisions, but they are typically not the ones doing the first interviews.

Imagine how it feels to go begging for an entry level job from some snot-nosed twerp young enough to be your kid...

I've just applied for five jobs in three days (and already have been refused for one). But it does look like -- just in the past week - people are hiring again. There was nothing even for me to apply for two weeks ago. I hope this is good news for the economy, and for all of us.

(Now if Score or Penthouse or Playboy would just start looking for writers :)  )

I have a small business, but I also relied on freelance work to pick up the slack at bill time.

That work is all gone now.

I'm too old and cranky to get a jobby job, believe me I have tried. And i have been self employed so long I have no resume for a real job.

I hope things turn around soon.
Call me Bob.

I'm starting to see more jobs in my field, in the salary I need to survive.  I've even gotten 2 calls on my posted resumes at jobsites in the last week.  Things are starting to show a tiny bit of encouragement.

I apologize in advance if I post duplicate pictures in any of the picture threads I deal in.  My MO in getting pictures of one girl is to rip her Instagram.  That ends up with me having up to 2000 pics of her.  I've tried almost half a dozen duplicate finder programs, and none of them find all of the duplicates I inevitably end up with.
