But man, can you imagine the recoil problems a broadside like that would have on an airship?
A full broadside from a large sailing vessel is enough to make it heel over, I can't imagine what it would do to a flying vessel!

Frankly that " airship " wouldn't be able to get off the ground. She has a coal burning steam plant for propulsion. Do you know how heavy that type of propulsion system is ? Pound for pound, it has very little power compared to a jet engine or a nuclear power plant. Just as birds have hollow bones in order to save weight and allow them to fly, aircraft have to have relatively low weight to fly. The drawings and art are fun to see but have no basis on real engineering or science. Anyways, a steampunk circus ringmaster.

I would say 95% or more of the airship illustrations would not work, on these pages, via conventional means.  One has to assume a leap into fantasy with some sort of newly developed lifting gas or materials that are insanely light or steam engines heated by radium.  Use your imagination.

I always like the idea of using H.G. Wells "Cavorite" for lifting power.  It even dates from close to the right time period.
