For five years I get regular flu shots. This year I skip it. Jeebus!! It knocked me flat for three or four days; then I tried to get up, and it came back like a herd of elephants!

Now all I have left is this silly cough that just won't quit; but, shit, can't these germs just go away?

Yes - the Flu can be nasty. Did not eat for the last 3 days because the old tummy appeared to not want anything at all. Lost 4kg in that time. Argh.
Do not forget to try and stay hydrated. That is important.

Flu is the result of a virus, which is basically a non-living organism in the sense that it requires a host cell in order to reproduce.
The problem is that in doing so the interchange of genetic material with the host cell always results in mutating the genetic structure of both the virus and the host cell in some way. It is due to this that some scientists have speculated that viruses might be the engine that makes evolution possible.

Also when it comes to micro-organisms beyond viruses, we macro-animals have a symbiotic relationship with a vast majority of types that with out them we would not be even alive.
