This does not surprise me one bit. When I was in my senior year of high school, back in 1974, they were introducing something called " Social studies ". No more separate classes for geography, world history, american history, etc, etc. It was all combined and, of course, much more efficient

. Well, my younger brother, who graduated in 1980, knew a lot less history, geography, etc, etc because, frankly, the teachers teaching " Social studies " didn't know squat. In a few years it was all fucked up. Not only in the USA. In Japan most japanese will deny that Japan was the agressor in the 1930's and World War 2 and that the "East Asia Co-prosperity sphere " is an american made up lie. This is because for the last 60+ years since the end of WW2, the japanese like to think somehow they are the victims because of Hiroshima and Nagasaki while conveniently forgetting the rap8 of Nanking, Pearl Harbor and the atrocities of Manila. So not only how much but what you are teaching determines what you know, or think you know, about history. In France the history books barely mention that it was those hated english speaking nations, USA, Britain and Canada, that actually liberated France from the Nazi germans and that the french were mostly spectators. History is not only written by the victors but quite often by charlatans.
