Well, Shara, I hope you understand that by law the fourth of July will be observed on the fifth of July.

Each year I take the day to reflect on one of the handful of Americans who have made profound contributions to our country and were honored with the contempt of the people around them. This year I am thinking of Sam Houston.
Someday, chi1dren, this entire fuck-up will be yours.

Shara, much though it is fashionable to tsk-tsk these results, I think it is more likely to prove that 26% of Americans tend to say "Fuck this shit" when questioned by pollsters.

Just watched "1776."  It has its lame parts, but I'm always very moved by it.

The Rebel Flag

James Mitchener pointed out in Centennial that the horse evolved here, spread throught the world, and became extinct here; the beaver evolved here and spread throughout the world, remaining here. But only the rattlesnake evolved here and stayed here.

This does not surprise me one bit. When I was in my senior year of high school, back in 1974, they were introducing something called " Social studies ". No more separate classes for geography, world history, american history, etc, etc. It was all combined and, of course, much more efficient  ::). Well, my younger brother, who graduated in 1980, knew a lot less history, geography, etc, etc because, frankly, the teachers teaching " Social studies " didn't know squat. In a few years it was all fucked up. Not only in the USA. In Japan most japanese will deny that Japan was the agressor in the 1930's and World War 2 and that the "East Asia Co-prosperity sphere " is an american made up lie. This is because for the last 60+ years since the end of WW2, the japanese like to think somehow they are the victims because of Hiroshima and Nagasaki while conveniently forgetting the rap8 of Nanking, Pearl Harbor and the atrocities of Manila. So not only how much but what you are teaching determines what you know, or think you know, about history. In France the history books barely mention that it was those hated english speaking nations, USA, Britain and Canada, that actually liberated France from the Nazi germans and that the french were mostly spectators. History is not only written by the victors but quite often by charlatans.

mmm yes, I did notice that even mentioning hiroshima is out of order with the Japanese, on a sidenote the French history books do make mention of you guys though :P

Same goes for both the Allies and the Soviets (or descendants thereof), each side terribly neglects the other's role in the final victory.
When you're good, no one remembers.
When you're bad, no one forgets.
