Seriously, The explanation that I have heard from an Italian on why bagel are so good in NY/NJ has to do with attitude level of the area where they bake it, that the water and atmospheric pressure is perfect for baking. His reasoning is that all of the Italian dish in Italy are best near the coastline. The bagels are very good in NY, that's all I know.

but in all honesty has there ever been any study done with X number of people in the news are catholic, muslim, jew ect? to say that jews "own" the media is a bit silly, there are a considerable number in film that come to mind, but what do we consider "jewish"? are we doing the nazi thing and going down the bloodline even those today arent even practicing or have converted? even if it were true who cares? but if youre going to make crazy statements better have the data to back it up...

There's a decent number of Jews serving in corporate officer jobs for major media companies. That much is at least verifiably true.

ABC -- CEO Robert Iger is Jewish
CBS -- President of the television network Nancy Teller is Jewish. Chairman of the CBS Corporation Sumner Redstone is Jewish. (Chairman is not an officer, but I figured I'd list him anyway.)
CNN -- Aforementioned CEO of CNN is Jewish.
Fox -- None of the key people are Jewish that I'm aware of.
NBC Universal -- CEO Jeff Zucker and COO Ron Meyer are Jewish


In terms of actual ownership though, there's less data to support that claim...
ABC -- Owned by Disney. Iger owns about 0.05% of Disney, which is largely institutionally held (e.g. mutual funds and banks).
CBS -- 90% institutionally held. Redstone owns a handful of shares, comparatively. He is the second-largest non-institutional shareholder, but he doesn't have 1% of the company.
CNN -- Owned by TBS, which is itself owned by Time Warner. TW is 83% institutionally held.
FOX -- Owned by News Corporation, which is 47% owned by the Murdoch family. This is the only major American network that has a real "owner" in the generic sense of the term. Murdoch isn't Jewish, by the way.
NBC Universal -- 80% owned by General Electric; GE is largely institutionally held. Neither Zucker or Meyer are major shareholders.


So... It probably wouldn't be accurate to say Jews own the media. (Unless you want to also claim that Jews own the financial institutions, which is another antisemitic canard entirely.) But it might be accurate to say that there Jews in positions of leadership in the media. But then again, you can say that about pretty much any ethnic group.

And if you want to trace it's origins, it all goes back to the European middle ages, where many of the Catholic rulers setup anti-Jewish laws to limit the kinds and types of businesses Jewish people could own or engage in. But that resulted in most Jews having one thing that a lot of their other free Christian citizens lacked - money.

So if you were a merchant in need of ready cash to finance some business venture, like say getting a ship and sailing to the middle east to bring back spices, or other exotic goods, you could go to a Jew and get him to loan you the capital.

Of course the Jews did have this one "nasty" habit regarding lending you the money - they charged interest!

So thus was born the rich, money-grubbing Jew.  (Anyone remember Shylock from Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice"?)

And when places were set-up where these business deals were conducted between Jewish moneylenders and non-Jewish borrowers thus were the beginnings of the first banks created.

And as banks grew in to places of more general finance, it wasn't too much of a step for those who were predisposed to dislike dealing with a bank and perhaps getting turned down for a loan, to basically make the pronouncement that the "Jews own all the banks"

So thats how the Jews got such a bum rap in the first place.
