Supposed to get up to 26 degrees there tomorrow, but partly sunny.  You NEED a housewarming party!

Here we've always been assuming you're in Seattle, and now it comes true.  Best luck.

Seattle is weird in that ... it has lots of hills ... and a small amount of snow turns to black ice ... and no one here knows how to drive in snow .. so there is congestion because of traffic accidents all over the place ...

We send warm wishes Munch. Have a safe move (again) and you simply must send a photo of your new kitchen. It is something of a tradition by now.

I recall being surprised at how little snow / ice it took to totally paralyze the city. When visiting several years back they had a record snowfall of 6" and the general attitude was like the world was ending. The snow was mostly melted in 4 days. We actually drove up to Vancouver BC during the worst of it just to get anything done (where they had about 18" and no problems at all).

You are right, it is not the topography or the type of precipitation so much but rather the ability of the population to deal with it. They simply can not handle it. Really.

I have various family that lives in the Seattle area (Redondo, Fauntleroy and Ravenna) and they all are from the Mid-West. Collectively they comment on how "the locals" and "those from down south" freak out at snow. One uncle has lived there for around 30+ years and often has mentioned driving "emergency missions" for his neighbors too fearful to leave their homes - because there is a chance of snow!

Munch, have fun living out of boxes! It also looks like you are moving back toward the troll again. Yeah!

What is this?, house number 4, 5... we will know you have reached domestic stability if there is a bread machine in that kitchen photo.

I lived in Tacoma a few years back.  At the time, i was driving a big ol' Plymouth Land Yacht with studded tires.  I loved it when it snowed -- I owned the roads!!

That was before the SUV craze struck.  Munch, do you notice that 4WD has changed the winter driving habits of Seattleites much?  It sure has changed how people drive in the mountains... I'm always getting my doors blown off by some SUVer who thinks they are bulletproof.  To me they're as reckless as someone who's into free-range fucking without a condom.

Munch, your mover and I are both taking the Mayor's advice and staying home.

And, yes, espy, the SUV craze has really encouraged drivers to ignore the snow. We watch them speed by us, then we go clear the wreckage when they crash. I drove the wife & daughter to the airport this morning from Ballard. Driving at 25, we passed the wreckage of many 4-wheel drives. All-wheel is very good; 4-wheel gets 'em going just fast enough to crash.

Hey pedonbio, Munch, check out the action on Capital Hill on Monday night!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhZCyQ3emQg&feature=player_embedded

This is off of John St. just a few blocks from a friend's place on the Hill.
In the midst of a smoke bomb, Jubei could steal your bra and you wouldn't even notice. He'll also use his Chinese star to pick the lock, and steal your car.
