Switcher this thread is almost cute. It appears as if time does proceed.  :D

I believe I know what you were doing and it appears to be better now.  ;)

I did want to add that the oddest thing happens when you are in a thread and posting when the following happens;
1) The thread gets moved
2) The thread gets merged
3) The thread gets made sticky
4) The thread is then locked

I only mention this here because I do not think this exact combination of mod intervention has ever happened to me while trying to reply to a thread in all my years here at the BEA. Sort of a super-special one-time-ever combination of events.

Just for the record you get one heck of an odd error message when you attempt to finish your reply to a thread that has essentially moved to a different dimension! Just goes to prove that I apparently have not lost my secret power of being the last to post to a thread before it goes through some startling metamorphosis.

Anyway, just wanted to share.  8)

102ZZZ yeah right!

You're right... When we move a thread, the forum software automatically generates a locked redirection thread at the thread's original location containing a message that says, "this thread has been moved to that board over there." The forum doesn't generate those redirection threads when we merge threads, but it should, so that readers of thread X will know that its contents have been merged into thread Y. To remedy that shortcoming during merges, we momentarily move thread X to an offline board, which forces the forum software to create the redirection thread (which we subsequently edit so that it directs users to thread Y). Then we merge thread X from the offline board into thread Y.

So yeah, if you start a reply to thread X while it's still editable and in its original location, and you hit the Post button after we've begun to merge it with thread Y, the forum errors you, because thread X is now in two states (locked and offline) from which you shouldn't have been able to invoke a reply form.

The forum doesn't automatically adjust your local time offset after transitions to/from Daylight Savings Time. You have to go to Profile > Look And Layout Preferences > Time Offset, click the (auto detect) link, then click the Change Profile button.

Yes, time continues to work as an arbitrary construct for organizing and measuring sequential experience.
