Hmmm. Reminds me of the late 1960s...
I'll give Bio two kinds of credit. One: the movie is from its own weird fantasy era merging a mid-Fifties look with mid-Eighties-style music, so the midpoint would indeed be somewhen around 1970. Also, the lyrics start out so "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds," with "lake" and "jewels" and "fire" and "prince" and a whole refrigerator magnet poetry mish-mash going on, that I have to wonder how high the writer was. But no, it's the Fifties as reimagined by 1984. I cited
www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjoNwa443woas a "You appreciate this song even more now than a quarter century ago" exhibit mainly for the recurring lyrics "It's gonna be over/ Before you know it's begun" and "Before you know it it's gone" -- and a chance to check out a young Diane Lane while knowing how milfy she'll turn out.

V to gOOb below: I might attribute that more to "perpetual youth delusion syndrome."
