Cars I'd Like To Know
« on: April 02, 2013, 04:58:20 AM »
Not an obsession; not even a big deal. But there are cars you want to know better. A 1930 Cord. Maybe a Terraplane. Or maybe a 1949 Delahaye:

Okay, I just have to say this: That car reminds me of me in my O-cup bra.  :P

Or does it remind me of Jimmy Durante?

Cha cha cha...!  I got a million of 'em!  ;D

Good Night, Mrs. Calabash, where ever you are!

Okay, but since this a "cars" thread, here's Mr. Durante driving a little recklessly in -->It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World

And then-->What happens when you drive off a cliff

You better believe it...  ;D ;D ;D

That looks like a 1957 Ford that Mr. Durante drives off the cliff.  Only 5 years old when they decided to destroy it for the movie.

Oh hey, the annual New York International Auto Show is now on for those of you in the New York area.  Runs through Sunday, April 7th.

^LOL!

Cris loves Cadillacs ever since the CTS came out (except for the Escalade versions), but every time I see one, it's being driven by some stuckup who drives like an a**hole.

At least, the new electric one seems to look better than how the Volt turned out.

I personally like anything built before 1950.  Seems like after 1950, the trend was towards a larger volume / mass produce-able vehicle.

I like the Ford car lines from around 1929 through the 1948 model year and the Lincoln/Mercury lines from about 1936 through 1950.  For trucks, hands down the Ford F-1 through F-8 truck line from 1948 through 1950.  They screwed the grille for the F-series trucks up in 1951 & 52...

Tugboat"I myself currently own a fully restored 1949 Ford F-1 and just purchased a farm-fresh 1931 Model A Pickup"Cap!

I had a brother-in-law, a much nicer guy then the awful sister of mine he married, who rebuilt a Cord with some other guys. It was what guys used to do. He gave me a ride in it about 1952. I have been in love ever since:

Yes, I have a thing for prominent fronts. I talked to my therapist about it back in the '80s, but he was a boob man, too.

If I had the money I would like a Duesenberg circa 1935 or so. No kiddies, it was built in Indiana, not Germany. Everyone of them was unique since they only shared drivetrains.  Each and every body was unique, manufactured by hand and to the prospective buyers specifications so no two are alike. Built with Aluminium bodies, which in the 30's would be like carbon fibre now, they would do a honest 110 miles per hour even though due to their massive size and frames they weighed a lot ( some weighed more than 6,000 pounds in spite of the aluminium bodies ). I believe " It's a Doozy " term comes from the car's name since Doozy was a nickname for the cars.  Another one built by the same company was Stutz which built the Stutz Bearcat which could do 130 mph and was the fastest production car you could buy anywhere until the 1950's. Unfortunately the company could not survise the Great Depression and withered away in 1938.  :'(  Another car I've always been partial to is the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz convertible with the 472 cubic inch engine. If there ever was a more excessive car in weight, chrome, fins, missiles and torpedoes through out its body I've never heard of it. It had in the front bumper a set of tits that would make Chelsea proud. That car by itself supported the South African chromium mines for years and after it all subsequent Caddys toned down the look. A 1967 Stingray with the 427 sixpack would be another near religious experience or even a 1969 Dodge Daytona or Plymouth Super Bird would be orgasmic. I was way too young to own any of these when I lusted for them and now rich baby boomers have put them out of my purchasing power  :'(.

Well, sol, here is the last Doozy produced. It was delivered to the owner in Paris, scheduled to show up at the New York World's Fair in 1939 but got hung up and disappeared in Occupied France during World War Two:

EDIT: This is a photo, not a drawing. The body was custom, of course; so was the paint job, which is a bit "fool the eye". It is purple and silver-gray, with the silver-gray used to make a "ghost" effect so that it looks like a not-real car. I gather it was ordered by a rich guy for his lover.
