Yes, this is “Cars I’d Like To Know”, but I couldn’t help but post a version of the car I owned in college in the early 80s.  Mine was white, but otherwise the same as this 1959 Imperial LeBaron Southampton hardtop.  My friends used to call it Christine.  It burned in a fire in the 90s, but I’d like to know another one, one day.  Miss it a lot.  I still have the occasional dream of driving it. So cool.  Few people knew what it was.

Oh, wow, would I have loved to have owned this!  Here’s another ‘59 Imperial, but this time a Crown coupe convertible.  So cool.

Imperial Crown was the base model, as I recall, but just to confuse things, Chrysler also did limousines called Crown Inperials, which were assembled in Italy.  Definitely not a base model in that case!

Unfortunately, the last Oldsmobile was sold in 2004, The Alero. At that time Oldsmobile was the oldest American car brand born in 1896.

What I also find very interesting about this vehicle it is how aerodynamic it is compared to its contemporaries.

40 years ago, Chevrolet introduced the 4th generation Corvette which replaced the 1968-1982 3rd generation which was called the Stingray. This model had better suspension, better handling, better aerodynamics and advanced electronics for its era. Anyways, I wanted to buy one but could never afford it.

Back when I worked at the Exxon station when I was in High School 50 years ago, a customer always drove this 1961 Ford Thunderbird which at the time I thought it was a cool looking car even though I'm a Chevy man. The original Thunderbird was a two-seater sports car which almost killed The Chevrolet Corvette back in the late 50's but Ford did a survey and found out they could sell a lot more Thunderbirds if they made it a large sedan. Remember, this was in the era when bigger was better and no one cared about fuel economy or anything like that. They did sell a lot more Thunderbirds and actually saved money since they were made with the same frame as the Galaxy. So the iconic sports car of the 50's was killed off, the Corvette survived, and it is still around, while they stopped making Thunderbirds years ago due to fuel economy problems and Japanese competition.

I currently have a 116i which is visually almost identical but not close to being as fast lol.

Yeah, we call them sleeper cars on this side of the pond because they look like regular family sedans, but they kick ass. 

One has actually come up for sale for the right priceand I've only gone and bought it lol.
It was a total whim and it'll be expensive to run and pay off but I thought fuck it you only live once lol.

One of George Barris' few out there customs I'd never seen or heard of.

"George was approached by VOX with an idea to build them a wild customized two-placed roadster which would be completely functional as a car and as a VOX amplifier. This vehicle was to be used for promotion purposes but could not lose the identity of the VOX product. This two-fold problem was taken over and solved by Barris.

The vehicle was to resemble a VOX guitar in silhouette and would create its own high-fidelity audio through the use of self-contained VOX sound equipment. Besides being a beautiful $30,000 show-stopping roadster, the Voxmobile is a completely functional unit in every respect. Its primary purpose is to project this new concept exposing the VOX guitar. This giant amplifier, the Voxmobile, can facilitate no less than 32 compatible VOX guitars with input jacks located along the top of the side body panel and has a VOX dual manual Continental organ mounted in the rear deck area. Power is transformed from the primary source of supply, a 12 volt auto-lite automotive battery, to 110 AC through two 450 watt inverters. The wild guitar sounds are powered by three powerful VOX Beatle amplifiers, complete with reverb, treble/bass boost and mid-range boost. There is an array of speakers hidden in the framework. In all, there are 2 main drive speakers mounted atop the intake manifold, five 12" speakers, one 18" bass speaker and four tweeters. As though this wouldn't suffice a Muntz stereo cartridge tape deck was installed. It houses 6 speakers and modulators and will be used to produce music when you happen not to have a band handy.

In order that the Voxmobile might be utilized to the fullest, special chrome steps were mounted astride the body and along the bottom of the rear deck compartment. These steps make it possible for three guitarists and an organist to belt out appropriate music while the car is being driven in a parade. It sure beats a marching band!"
