Back in the 1970's, the US Army wanted to replace the Jeep for a more useful vehicle and in 1979, AM General won the contract and began production of the HMMWV or High Mobility multiple way vehicle or Humvee as called by army personnel or Hummer by civilians and it started to produce eventually hundreds of thousands and it is still in use and the Ukrainians really like the vehicle right now. Production has ceased years ago and it is being replaced, slowly but surely by the JLTV (Joint Light Tactical Vehicle).

THE BRUTAL AMERICAN 20-LITRE V-4 FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CHRISTIE RACING CAR OF 1908
The most spectacular and brutal car Christie ever built was definitely the V-4 racer of 1908. It had an engine that housed an astonishing 20 liters (1,214 cubic inches), mounted transversely, the crankshaft taking the place of the front axle! It was a completely new design, specially built for the 1908 racing season and using no parts from previous racers…
The immense engine had a bore and stroke of 184 x 184 mm (7 1/4 inch square) and 8 atmospheric inlet valves per cylinder and just one mechanically opened overhead exhaust valve. The transverse mounted engine employed crankshaft mounted spur gears and telescopic U-joints on each end to drive the front wheels, originally through a transmission arrangement that featured dangerously exposed gears. Later this was changed, to make it better suited for high-speed racing…

Very cool.  Wonder what the hp or top speed was.

He got it up to 109 mph in testing, but the first race he tried in it, he crashed due to hitting debris from a previous racers crash left on the track.  He was injured VERY badly, and didn't race again that year.

His next car was the 1909 front wheel drive Christie Racer driven by Barney Oldfield, Master Driver of the World and America's Legendary Speed King, the first to lap the Indianapolis Speedway at more than 100 MPH. on May 28, 1916, speed: 102.623 MPH, time: 1.27.70.

The Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) was designed to replace the Humvees back in 2011 and it is manufactured by Oshkosh in Wisconsin, and it comes in multiple varieties and it has a V shaped hull to help deflect mines explosions to protect the crew inside. This is a variant with a 25mm cannon to defeat light armor vehicles and enemy infantry. There is a medic version, anti-aircraft version and many more. First deployed in 2019.

Thanks sol.  I’ve heard about these but haven’t seen much info on them.  Not as cool looking as the HUMMWV, huh?  Although that gun turret is great.

  That Suburban is quite smart.... Sort of an early MPV/SUV huh ??  Looks like it was based on the commercial van version....   My favourite colour too !

I was surprised to find the Dodge Power Wagon has been around since 1945, based on a 3/4 ton 4x4 truck Dodge created for the Army in WWII.

1956 Presidential limousine. This Cadillac limousine is a convertible but after John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, no more convertibles and they have been heavily modified and armored to protect the President as much as possible. This one was used during the Dwight D. Eisenhower administration. Eisenhower is one of the very few five star Generals that the US Army has had, and they all were World War 2 Generals.
