Good luck. When I was a hippie this was ours:

You're not familiar with Flower of Scotland?  If Scotland ever does get an official national anthem it's the most likely choice.  I couldn't link to a stadium rendition because there are k1ds in the videos.

Flower Of Scotland performed by Alestorm.

Why on earth would the U.S. adopt an anthem about a minor quirk in British politics? We had our own issues with that, but got past it 200 years ago.   ::)

The Corries may have been a hit in Orkney, but, uh, not everywhere.

You see, this is why we need the ignore user function re-added.  ^ That is an unbelievably stupid post.

Nowhere did I say the song Flower of Scotland has anything to do with the U.S.

We're done here; I won't be posting again in this thread.

Moosylvania, the home of Bullwinkle J. Moose, has its own anthem.

More on Moosylvania here and here

And here:

Interestingly enough, Pottsylvania (home of Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale), also has an anthem:

    Hail, Pottsylvania
Hail to the black and the blue!
    Hail, Pottsylvania
Sneaky and crooked through and through,
Down with the good guys, up with the boss
Under the sign of the triple cross, hey!
    Hail, Pottsylvania,
    Hail, hail, hail!

Britain has a lot about smashing the Scottish foe.

Excuse me, but where EXACTLY in the OFFICIAL 5 verse British national anthem (God Save the Queen) does it mention ANYTHING about smashing the Scottish foe? For heaven's sake, Scotland is a PART of Britain, I hardly think that would be appropriate.

If you are referring the a seldom used verse from 1745 used by anti-Jacobites, this was in use before the act of Union in which England and Scotland were joined. It has most certainly not been used since the act of union.

Glad you asked. This issue arises because in fact there is no "OFFICIAL" British national anthem, but simply a traditional song which is used on state and athletic occasions. It's like having an unwritten constitution; arguing over the wording of an unwritten constitution is simply no fun at all.  :-\

Periodically verses have been added and omitted. Salem, you are spot-on in reference to the 1745 verse encouraging General Wade's forces to:

"Sedition hush,
 And like a torrent rush,
 Rebellious Scots to crush..."

Around the same time a different writer felt compelled to explain why General Wade should crush those Scots:

"Foes let them fall,
 From foreign slavery,
 Priests and their knavery,
 And Popish Reverie,
 God save us all."

Someday, chi1dren, this entire fuck-up will be yours.

One of my favorites belongs to one of my favorite countries, Micronesia. I note that "Patriots of Micronesia", a/k/a "Across All Micronesia" mentions land quite a bit. That makes sense, because of the approximately 1,000,000 square miles that compose Micronesia, a bit more than 200 of them are land.
