As I recall from a fifty-year-old biology class, cat anatomy is very different from ours. Partly a result of size, and part body chemistry.

Cats are true carnivores. Though sweet and cuddly as pets, cats are to small animals as much killing machines as sharks are.

Yes, and they hunt for pleasure very often, not for actual hunger. I read on a Science magazine article, admittedly a while back so if my recollection is not 100% please don't mangle me too much, that the " domesticated " cat is one of the top three killers of small birds in the world and most of the birds are not consumed for nutrition. The expression " look what the cat has dragged in the door " is very much a good observation of this behavior. So if you love birds, lose the cat.  ;) ;D

Personally, for those reasons, I think cats should be indoor pets.
