How did I learn to read ? Well, in my case it was at a Jesuit catholic school where I got massive doses of whoop ass from the priests and later on from the old man who didn't care for me wasting his hard earned money by being a ungrateful little hard headed turd. Yup, I learned alright.  ;D

Especially cursive?

Are you asking seriously? I started with street signs and practicing signing my name. At the time it was believed that early reading was harmful, so it was not encouraged. In first grade we were allowed to start reading, using a system of letter-to-sound called "phonics". I don't know whether the system is still used.
Someday, chi1dren, this entire fuck-up will be yours.

I'm a Dick, Jane and Sally man -- and proud of it!

"Look! Look!" said Sally. "See? That woman has very large breasts."
"Yes," said Dick. "I see. Her breasts are very large. Look!"
"I see that her breasts are very large," said Sally. "Look! See? Look!"

My Mom taught me how to read and write before I started school I expect with myriad Dr. Seuss books (which we kept) and probably other aids; I had no memory of it so many years later I asked her about it.  As to the especially cursive, I have memories of practicing that in elementary school but, as with reading and writing, no other memories of it beforehand.
