I will be going to see the newest Indiana Jones, Dial of Destiny in a couple of hours. It will be a three hour Marathon due to the trailers also. I'll report later tonight my opinion of it. Crossing fingers.

It was better than the Crystal Skull, that’s for sure.  Loved the scenes with a young Indiana, too bad they couldn’t make his voice sound younger, too.  Harrison’s voice has become particularly gravelly sounding.  Overall: not bad.

Yes, I agree. To be honest, I had low expectations in regards to this movie because lately Disney has been screwing up a lot. It was better than I expected. Nope, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom and Last Crusade were/are better but one thing I did like about this movie was how several of the best scenes in this movie were derived from the original trilogy. For example, remember in the Temple of Doom the scene where they are in a passage and all those creepy millipedes start crawling all over them? Well, in the Dial of Destiny they are in a cave looking for Archimedes grave and suddenly thousands of millipedes start crawling all over them. There were more scenes which were reminiscing about those three movies. Anyways, I do recommend it.

Yeah, lots of references, to be sure.  Remember that big swordsman in Raiders who is all threatening and full of himself but Indie just shoots him?  There’s kind of a reverse on that scene that I thought was clever (will not elaborate for those who haven’t seen it). 

My son-in-law pointed out something to me and that’s that he misses Steven Spielberg’s direction.  Spielberg is able to take complex fight/action scenes (usually on moving vehicles) and make them easy to follow.  I have to agree with him that some of the action scenes weren’t as easy to follow as Spielberg might have shot them—a minor quibble, but it’s there.

And I agree; from Minority Report to Saving Private Ryan to E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, and many more besides, Spielberg does action sequences and chase sequences very very well. No "shakeycam" nonsense from him! He's always adding his own spin to them while still paying tribute to the greats that came before him. Prime example: the desert truck sequence from Raiders of the Lost Ark is a tribute to the insane stuntwork done by Yakima Canutt in 1939's Stagecoach.

Saw the latest Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning part 1 and like the prior ones, it was a good one. Lots of action, great stunts, some good CGI but plenty of real stunts done by real people, good plot line and story and I do recommend it.

I don't much like Tom Cruise, but I do respect he still does a lot of his own stunt work, injuring himself some times.  He inspires a lot of other to keep up cool stunt work themselves.

I have a complicated relationship with him.

As a human being, he's a horror show.

As a stunt performer on film, he's on par with Jackie Chan or any of the true greats of the artform.

As a dramatic actor, he's vastly underrated.

Yesterday I saw the director's cut of The Lord of The Rings the fellowship and today I'll see the Two Towers. They are both almost four long each but they are classics I love to see on the big screen on IMAX.

A trilogy that lived up to the hype.

I would even say it has a strong claim to be the best trilly ever.

Today I'll be seeing the last of The Lord of the ring trilogy, The Return of the King and tomorrow they are showing all of them together in one sitting, but I won't go to that since it is 13 hours long.

I have all 3 movies, extended versions, on blu-ray.  About once every couple of years, we take a weekend and do a marathon.  It's cool to be able to pause them for meals, snacks, or washroom breaks.
