Sam Quek was a member of the squad, and once she returned to England, she went straight to the hospital where her 95-year-old nan was recovering from a stroke to present her gold medal to her. Apparently, Sam's family didn't tell her that her nan had suffered the stroke until after the final match so as not to distract her.

Watching the Opening Ceremony of the Paralympic Games in Rio. Pretty cool what they're doing with technology and stuff. There was a huge cheer when the Brazilian contingent (second-largest at these Games, with only the People's Republic of China having more athletes) marched into the Maracana Stadium -- and an equally-huge boo when the current president of Brazil declared the Games open. Head lice is literally more popular in the country than he is.

Fun fact: today is the anniversary of the day that Dom Pedro declared Brazil's independence from colonial power Portugal.

Actually really enjoying watching the Paralympics tonight. Just seen a 38 year-old British man win Gold and getting a World Record at the swimming, Inspirational.
