Bella Ramsey (b. September 2003 in Nottingham, England) had to use a midwestern American accent for her role in the TV adaption of the video game The Last of Us, which will premiere on HBO Max on 15 January 2023.

That was filmed here in Alberta.  My nephew did some extra work in it.

I apologize in advance if I post duplicate pictures in any of the picture threads I deal in.  My MO in getting pictures of one girl is to rip her Instagram.  That ends up with me having up to 2000 pics of her.  I've tried almost half a dozen duplicate finder programs, and none of them find all of the duplicates I inevitably end up with.

Yes indeed. From all accounts it was the largest TV production in Canadian history.

I've just started watching the show - how good is Bella's accent?  As a Brit it seems pretty convincing.

^I think he was too, Zookie.  I certainly didn't know he wasn't American, watching him.

I did, since he has appeared in Doctor Who twice.

The Crusade (1964)
City of Death (1979)

The British Isles have a huge range of regional accents. Most American actors don't do English accents well; most absolutely butcher Scottish or Irish accents. RDJ's English accent (as seen in his Sherlock Holmes movies or in Chaplin) is exceptionally good. His wife in the Avengers movies, Gwyneth Paltrow, does a good English accent in Shakespeare in Love also.

Her accent in 'Sliding Doors' is exceptional too.

Yet another Australian playing an American, also on The Last of Us: Murray Bartlett.

Here he is being interviewed earlier this week, speaking in his natural accent.

I thought I had mentioned him before but:

Alan Cumming, who played the title character's husband's Chicago political fixer in CBS's The Good Wife, is Scottish. He's also played characters who were Russian (in the James Bond movie GoldenEye) and German (Nightcrawler in X-Men 2), among others.

Here he is speaking in his natural accent.

How about from Hollywood's golden age of the 1930's, 1940's and 1950's, like Vivien Leigh and Errol Flynn. England and Australia respectively.  :)

I would have heard him first on British TV, so always thought of him as Scottish.

Parminder Nagra - UK - Agents of Shield
Before she was on ABC's Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., her most famous American TV role was on the last six seasons of NBC's ER, playing Dr. Neela Rasgotra. She couldn't be arsed to do an American accent so she was able to get them to let her keep her Leicester accent. She's a Brit of Indian Punjabi and Sikh heritage.

Speaking of Parminder, she was Jesminder "Jess" Kaur Bhamra in her breakout movie Bend It Like Beckham (2002). Three of her co-stars in that movie went on to do very well in the USA, often playing USAmericans despite them also being Brits:

* Archie Panjabi, who played Jess' older sister Pinky - although born in London to Sindhi Hindu parents who were forced to move from Pakistan to India during Partition, she later played the sexy, mysterious, and badass investigator Kalinda Sharma on CBS's The Good Wife for six seasons, a role for which she was nominated thrice for Primetime Emmys, winning once in 2010;

* Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who played Jess' coach Joe - although Irish, he later portrayed Elvis Presley in the biographical CBS miniseries Elvis, earning him a Primetime Emmy nom, and a Golden Globe win, in 2005;

* Keira Knightley, who played Jess' friend, teammate, and romantic rival for Joe - although English, she has portrayed many USAmerican characters in movies and on TV, and has been nominated twice for an Academy Award.

Daniel Kaluuya (Black Mirror, Kick Ass 2, Get Out) is British (born in London).
Of course since I posted this, Daniel has gone on to great things: the London-born actor of Ugandan descent portrayed W'Kabi in the MCU blockbuster Black Panther (2018), and won his first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor portraying the USAmerican political activist Fred Hampton in the 2021 biopic Judas and the Black Messiah.

His very particular accent for Queen & Slim was modeled on people from Columbus, Ohio. Here he is on Jimmy Kimmel Live, speaking in his natural accent.
