TechCrunch: "tumblr will remove all porn from its site"

It’s the same old story.New web community welcomes porn.Community becomes popular to the point where big company buys it and then decides it doesn’t want people posting porn anymore.
What gets me is they are so concerned about porn but not so much about the fact that the vast majority of material that is posted there is posted by people who don’t own the copyright to that material.They only become concerned when a copyright holder files a complaint about a specific post.

Hey gang, I want to share my experience with successfully downloading my blog.

I followed the instructions, but it takes a great deal of patience.

First, it took about a day and a half before the process of creating the Zip file was complete.  I received an e-mail from Tumblr once it was.  I’ve been posting, pretty regularly, for knocking on four years, so there was a lot to process.  But I know some of you have blogs that are many times the size of mine.  So don’t wait to get started on this.

Secondly, once the Zip file was ready, I had to download it to my desktop.  I’ve no idea what someone who is operating strictly from a smartphone is supposed to do.  I think it would work fine, but you’d have to have a lot of empty disc space to accommodate the file.

I have a fast internet connection, but it took a long time to download the Zip file.  I couldn’t say how long exactly, but I started around 9 pm and at some point overnight it was complete.

Then it took a long time to unzip the file.  I’d say the entire process was a three day affair.

I now have a Zip file with all my pics, and a whole bunch of other data.

Now, at this point I have no frickin’ clue how easy or difficult it will be to transfer all this into a new blog with a new host.  At this point I don’t even know where I’ll be going. But I sure hope I wind up somewhere that folks can easily find me.

But I wanted to share this with you.  Follow the instructions, be patient, and you will wind up with all your content on a file.

So, what happens when you upload one of Tumblr's own examples of OK content?

They are just so stupid. It's as if they deliberately want to destroy their own company. Let's be frank here. Even though Alexa ranks it as the 29th-most visited site in the United States, without porn, nobody would want to visit tumblr.

I hope most of the good stuff has been saved and that the creators/curators will re-upload it all to Cumblr and 2mblr.

I did a google search just now to see if there are any sources that give info on whether this change is affecting Tumblr financially yet.  Unfortunately, either my google-fu was weak, or there aren't any.  Does anyone have reliable info on this yet, or is it still too soon to tell if there's gonna be fallout to Tumblr financially?

It's probably too soon for the financial effects to be evident, but losing 85% of their traffic in such a short amount of time will no doubt eventually hit their bottom line and they deserve to go broke for this idiotic move.
