The woman in the painting looks pretty enough to me, it's just the harshness of the painting itself that may seem ugly.

I have to agree... though we're talking about an illustration (and not an actual person) the same subject could very well appear attractive with only minor changes to (what would have been) makeup and hair. Simply getting rid of the dark areas around her eyes and adding a smile would go a long way.

Haven't any of you seen an otherwise attractive woman when she's tired, or ill, or unhappy? Not everyone looks like a photoshopped centerfold all the time... not even actual centerfolds. I'm thinking of some pix I saw of one of our all-time-most-popular implanted BB models... in her late 30s... pix she bravely let be taken of herself w/o any makeup/first thing in the morning. Though I still considered her to be very attractive in that state (actually, I LIKE that totally unmadeup look, but I'm odd) the difference between that and how she looked most of the time (all done up) was enormous.

I'm just saying I don't think the subject of the illustration is necessarily 'ugly.'
