Well, India's largest car company is TaTa Motors. This year they will try to enter the U.S. market with a very small car that retails for $2,500, the Tata Nano.

From what I gather, the Tata entry-level car is NOT intended for ANY kind of near-future US distribution: it would never pass US Federal standards nor would enough US buyers consider it due to vast lowered-expectations in quality control, safety, etc... Their new cheap cars (US$2.5-5K) are intended mainly for domestic (Indian) market sales, plus maybe some other places where they'd be more appealing to the potential customer base.

With that said, Americans probably WILL be able to buy a "Tata Motors" vehicle in the US this year... because rumors abound that Ford is going to sell the Jaguar brand to Tata (after losing billions on it, Ford figures it's time to let someone else have a turn).
