stocks or municipal bonds?
Well, which bonds and which stocks ? Municipal bonds, especially those from California, New York and Illinois cities and towns are poison. Stocks ? Well, I own , for example, Exxon / Mobil and Bank of America ( I have more ). B of A is crap. Exxon / Mobil ? Better than gold and not just because of $100+ oil. Whether you like the oil majors or not, Exxon / Mobil has been the best managed for the last 70+ years ( when Exxon was Standard oil of New Jersey and Mobil was Standard oil of New York ) and in the 30+ years I've owned it ( inherited to begin with ) it has always paid a dividend, met financial goals and just been good to me. So the answer to me is stocks. Municipal bonds have too much political risk ( politicians can't help themselves ) and will not be the safe buy people think they are for a long time to come.
