Mentor no longer makes custom implants. If you go to their web site you can contact Diane with Mentor.  She is really fast about reply to your questions.  I know because I tried Mentor.  My first implants were theirs so I'd hoped that when I went larger to stay with them.  But found out that they don't go larger.  www.mentorcorp.com is their web address.

Mentor and McGhan, the two major US implant companies, did indeed make custom implants from custom molds in the past.  However, the same FDA changes which doomed string implants, i.e. a specific FDA device approval submission being required for every model of implant, spelled doom for custom made implants as well.  I am told that the cost of seeking such approval (and no guarantee that you'll get it) is in the $100,000 ballpark.  Since this $100,000 cost would only obtain an approval for one specific size and style of implant, the implant companies looked at all of the models they offered as well as 'not in the catalog' custom sizes, and made decisions not to seek approval for sizes and styles which were unlikely to sell 10,000 pairs per year to recoup the $100,000 cost.  This basically resulted in a dotted line being drawn at 750cc-800cc, where no new implants larger than these sizes would be offered due to the projected low sales volume compared to the high FDA approval testing and submission costs.  

Fortunately, the 1200cc rated Mentor 'Becker' tissue expander adjustable implant we've been discussing had been developed, tested and approved several years ago and is listed as a 'catalog implant' with the reconstructive products.  To my knowledge it is the highest cc rated breast implant with an FDA approval.

OK now I am pissed. Why can't a girl with cash get what she wants?

I talked to my doctors office on Monday and told them I wanted to go for the Becker Expanders.  The 1000cc saline 200cc silicone's.  The girl at his office said OK and that she would get back to me with the final price. On Tuesday I told the folks at my day job that I would be out in a couple weeks to have my operation.

Today I get a call from my doctors office saying that they can't do it.  They said that because the implants have 200cc of silicone in them that I can't have them because I don't meet the rules about getting silicone. I thought they just found that silicon isn't a problem anyway.

The girl said that the FDA was at their office last week checking out all cases of girls who had received implants that had silicone in them and that my doctor could loose his certification if I don't meet the right conditions for getting silicon.  

They said that I have to have cancer or my boobs have to be hard or I had to have already had silicone and I don't and they are not hard at all.  I am so upset.

Now tell me what cancer victim is going to want to have 1200CC implants.  

They told me that if I check back at the end of the summer that they might have some kind of cohesive gel implant but they are not sure.

Come on give me a break.  I want to know who the big boob hating F*#k at the FDA is who is keeping us gals from getting what we want.  For god sake I already have implants in me what is wrong with getting bigger ones.

I think the real evil here is I am now considering going to another doctor. I guess my only option is to try and find a doctor in Los Angeles who is taking part in the Silimed study.

I called Silimed and they told me the closest doctor to me that is in the silimed study is in San Bernadino. My last doctor is 5 blocks from my house.  I felt much better knowing that if something went wrong that I could just go down the street not a couple of hours away.  

This sucks.  I was confortable with my current doctor.  But now the FDA by virtue is it's actions is now **77** me to go to someone new who I am not sure of to get an implant that is being studied instead of allowing me to go to my regular doctor to get a product that is FDA approved.

I've also talked to another doctor that is about 600 miles away who said that they could put bigger implants in me if I am willing to order them from out of the country. They recommend that I get them from Mexico.

My god I just want to cry.

I'll keep you all posted and if anyone has any advice please let me know.

FDA approvals + medical society certifications = lower malpractice insurance premiums.  Fortunately there are a handful of plastic surgeons who care more about happy patients than they do about their own profits.  Unfortunately, it sounds like the doctor who's 5 blocks away from you isn't one of them!  If you want to stick with this guy, though, there's still the option of McGhan 133FV's which can be overfilled to 1300cc and which contain no silicone.

if i was any good in science, i'd probably go for that and then have a career as a plastic surgeon...
i wouldn't care about the money.. i'm sure they make plenty enough.. more than what i'll need... and i would take pride in making so many women (and probably their boyfriends/husbands) happy... and if i'm lucky, some would be single... haha..

but unfortunately, the only things i'm good at are in art and math... so i only can resort to enhancing women by drawing/painting them or using the computer...

Hey Gang,

I want to thank all the girls who have helped me out with information.  I could not have gotten this far without your help. For the girls that have written to me via email I'm sorry I haven't been able to get back to all of you yet. I've been so busy with work, my web site and just everything.

Here is a little update to let you all know where I am at now.  After finding out that my old doctor could not get me implants bigger then the standard Mentor corp 750cc which are as big as they come and he told me that he would not use the tissue expanders in me, I took the advice of many of you and began to look at other options.

I called Mentor myself and found that they had no solution.  I called McGhan they had no solution.  I then contacted Silimed and asked them about their study.

They told me that they are still doing the study.  I got the name of the only doctor in the LA area who is part of the study. After contacting his office I was given an appointment. When I called I kept asking the girls in his office if they were part of the study and could they get the large implants and they said I would need to the doctor.

Today I went to talk with him.  My appointment went great. I guess he had told the girls that he was not sure if I could get 1000CC plus into me.  I think most girls just have a much smaller frame then I. He took a good look and felt it would be no problem for me.

So tomorrow they are going to get all the details on how much the implants are going to cost, I think it will take them a few days to get back to me. They will tell me when they can get them and do the operation.

So I'm not in the clear yet. But I feel pretty close. It's too bad it didn't work out with my old doctor.  Tomorrow would have been the day I was scheduled to have my surgery. It sure would have been nice if I was getting my big boobies tomorrow. I'll just have to cross my fingers and hope that the Silimeds come through and they come soon.

So if there are other girls who are looking to go bigger and are having a time of it you might want to contact Silimed and see if they have a doctor in your area.

BIG BOOB UPDATE

I just got a call from my new doctor.  My new custom implants have been ordered. They are going to be big. I am so happy.
