me too, i use personally paintshop's animation shop 3.  it came with a older paint/photo shop CD i had but lost the cd but kept the file.  it can make gifs from still images or you can upload video (small chunks of a minute or so to avoid PC slowdown) in AVI or MPEG form and make them that way which is easier than frame by frame.

Been gone for a while, decided to hit you guys up with something new..

lol... saw the scene' and just had to make it..

It's "FireFox" friendly only... in any other browser it slows progressively mid-way. If anyone has tips on how to fix that, please let me know.

for future reference and less 'heat' from the mods. it is best if you make a 'still frame' of your gif and make it a clickable thumbnail and upload the gif to a hosting site.  then we can click on the pic and open the gif.  if it is small enough you can also 'attach' it to a forum post as well.  this causes less lag on the forums from those who may still be on dial up or on slow running machines that get bogged down if there are a lot of auto animated gifs like yours and some of mine in the past .

Uh, I don't think jason_bond meant that it knowingly slowed down your browser, he meant that unless you are using Firefox, the animation of the particular .gif slows down, so that's a bit of an overreaction. Also, I'd wager that the number of people using dialup is extremely small.

Pal clarifies: out of consideration for other users, we've been asking folks to NOT embed automatically-load-and-play large gifs into threads. In an effort NOT to expand the site rules, we've been doing this on a case-by-case as-needed basis, though it'll probably become necessary to append the rules eventually. With the increased attachment size limit there's been a recent influx of large gifs: some basically full video rez and a few seconds in length... having to have these load in their entirety is simply excessive... thus our request. I'm not on dial-up myself and in some threads, where 3 or 4 or more large animated gifs have been embedded, it can add a full half-minute or more to the load time for the thread. Much better (and more considerate of others) to embed a link, a clickable thumb or any use any other method that gives other users a choice as to whether they want to load such files.


edit: alright, well it seems like this forum automatically does that if you upload an image with larger dimensions than 200 on one side or so.

Pal replies again: really? I had no idea... that's useful information... thanks! If that's an automatic feature of the forum, then the size variable is probably editable someplace. If so, we can turn it down all the way so ALL animated gifs are automatically turned into click-to-load-and-play links. I'll PM the powers that be to ask. Thanks again Glottis.

sorry glottis that is not true, i tried to attach a CC gif in a santa themed top in a different thread and it is 240x240 and it showed up as a auto playing gif, instead of a thumbnail .

The current maximum dimension of thumbnails (and the threshold size below which pics aren't thumbnailed) is 250x250.

I would make the file size just above the avatar size limits.

What is the file space limits for GIF?

1536kb or a little over 1.5mb for any attachment, gif included .

Yeah.. With what Glottis said I meant the Gif itself, I believe it was 3.5 MB in size... but if it DID happen to slow down users with dial up computers I apologize.
