Thanks for the Lovecraft info... I will start with The Call of Cthulhu and see how it goes from there... I've been meaning to give him a go for some years now.

Thanks again!

Thanks (fortunately not swept into off-topic). The net is a gloriously strange place.
The best HP short-story to start with and one that'll make you want to read more of the whaky stuff is IMO  The Colour Out of Space. There is even a great punch-line.

The Colour Out Of Space has been made twice (to my knowledge) into movies: Die Monster, Die (with Karloff) & The Curse (with the kid from Star Trek TNG). There have also been references in The Simpsons, most notably in the "tommacco" episode.
I'd already had seen the plush Cthultu in a gaming shop in town, I'd tought it was a wonderfully bizarre item. Nice to know there is some kind a market for it.

Well, I stopped by the local library (the small cute one, not the big annoying one... parking at both suck) and only found a single HP Lovecraft book, a short story collection called Cthulhu 2000 which unfortunately doesn't have the Color of (outer) Space story mentioned above. However, this'll have to do for a start... with it getting dark so early these days and it being cold out, a short story collection ought to do nicely.

Pls let me apologize (retroactively, in the present and in advance) for all the times I have/will mispelled Cthulhu.

Did everyone see the plush Nibbler (from Futurama) also? I'm kind of surprised that place had a plush Nibbler (only appeared on a single episode I think) but not any Invader Zim stuff (I love IZ).

Thanks again to all for their response re: Lovecraft.

Actually, it turns out that the book I got ISN'T by Lovecraft, but rather a collection of short stories INSPIRED by Lovecraft's work by a dozen or so mostly well known SF authors. I was in a rush, what with the bad parking and my dog in the car, etc... I've started it anyway, but will also pick something up by HPL himself.
