Pissing My Life Away
« on: June 01, 2007, 07:54:28 AM »
The other night there was blood in my urine.  Same thing happened to me sixteen years ago, and it was a one-of-a-kind thing, plus online info seemed to say, Yeah, this'll come and then often just go -- and it did, for a while, I was back to good old watery urine -- but no, now it's periodic.

I have come to appreciate blood, and it's weird actually watching your body jettison your life essence like garbage.

Internal bleeding suck -- how do you apply the Band-Aid?

Doctor's office is just giving the "we'll call you back when we call you back" tape, so I'd better just hit 911.  Fingers crossed that this is nothing that a cheap procedure and/or half a ton of antibiotics can't cure ...

Thanks.

Must admit, I'm now beginning to feel a bit sheepishly like the Stephen King character Carrie White from his premiere novel Carrie (although without all the vengeful psychokinesis), when she freaks out over **111** -- evidently hematuria is not only fairly common but not that radical a deal.  (Sure LOOKS radical, I must say.)  My doctor didn't find much protein in my sample, so he'll do a culture but meanwhile his recommendation is that I have a normal weekend.  Hmmm.  Well, if I can have a normal weekend not peeing TOO much burgundy iced tea, perhaps.  Will see.

Hey DE, haven't you seen Doctor Strangelove? Blood isn't your life essence... a certain other bodily fluid is! Seriously, though of course you need to have it taken care of asap, the loss of blood in those quantities isn't likely to be a problem in and of itself... I'd be surprised if a person (short of Ebola) could lose enough blood that way to even result in a mild case of anemia. Regardless, be your own advocate and get the necessary medical attention that you require.

I'll keep a good thought for you on this.

Ah, well ... thank goodness I'm well stocked on  that.

Thank you, all.  What's crazy is that I haven't voided the "burgundy iced tea," as I have come to think of it, ever since I left a sample for the doctor three days ago; instead, it's right back to good old ordinary "weak lemonade," so all seems well once more.

Something like this happened to me sixteen years ago -- but now as then (or then as now, depending on how you look at it), the only handy hypothesis is that I passed a kidney stone.  That doesn't make all the sense in the world to me, seeing as no stone has turned up and I keep hearing about how excruciating that's supposed to be, yet no real pain was involved with this.  Maybe my body occasionally tries to make a kidney stone but comes up only with a kidney sand grain, something to a kidney stone what the Tunguska object would be to a full-fledged comet.

Anyhow, they'll call back, but at this point this is looking more like a "symptom" thread than any actual malady in its own right -- so now I feel a bit embarrassed, surrounded as I am by pneumonia and lumpy testicles.  (Metaphorically speaking, of course!)  I hereby offer this thread up as a forum for anyone who undergoes, as I have, the shock of any hematuria.

I even offer a motto.  "Hematuria: you will get through it -- as surely as it gets through you."

Do you jog? I know it sounds stupid but the bladder jarring of jogging can cause it

BTW - i passed a kidney stone (it was more of a pebble) with no pain so it is possible to miss is depending on where you passed it.

I don't jog, but I do walk a lot.  Wild that there are stones I may not feel, thanks for testifying to that.

Not sure I can gripe here much more.  On the one hand, I passed blood a few times -- but on the other hand, it's cleared up, no infection has been detected, and I get some special attention from Vix.  Right this moment, I'd say I'm making out like a bandit.

Well it sounds like you're going to live! Hope you don't have anymore trouble with it, and enjoy the unexpected rewards . I've heard that people that drink a LOT of soda drinks get them more frequently, don't know if that's you, but I'd lay off 'em anyway
