I had the other half of the MRE-style fettuccine alfredo package I opened the other night. As before, it was sorta bland and salty but filling (someone gave me the package to try it... it stores w/o refrigeration and you just add boiling water to 'cook' it). Despite my less-than-stellar impression of it the first time around I wasn't going to let it go to waste, as that would be immoral. Added later: the MRE pasta was from a company called Wise... I happened to see Marie Osmond (still looking nice despite having a zillion babies and depression) pushing Wise meals on an infomercial the other night... such is the product of intermittent insomia). ;)

So, I ate it (believe me, it wasn't worth a photo) and had one beer. The two together were literally just as effective as a 10mg Ambien, I kid you not.

Added Aug 13th: having a couple friends over... roasting a whole chicken (with a whole grain mustard and dill glaze) on the baby BBQ. I know raw chickens aren't that photogenic, but I might not have time to snap a photo when it's done:

This is the 'after' photo of the chicken I grilled the other night. Note the layer of minced herbs beneath the skin over the breast and please also note the visible moistitude of said chic'n.

I made a tasty bowl of shrimp teriyaki over rice... a bit spicy with red jalapenos and garlic. While I was at it, I made five portions of chicken teriyaki to freeze for next week when I'll be working late (at left in the photo) using a big flat-bottomed wok someone gave me recently. At right/in back is the second of two pots of chicken stock I have in-progress (I save all the bones in a plastic bag in the freezer along with vegetable scraps, etc... until there's enough to make a big batch of stock).

Now time for an evening dog walk (with the neighbor's dog) then a little TV and then bed. :)

Went to Del Taco for the Tuesday three tacos for a buck. Got six and spent $2.19 for dinner and didn't have to clean the dishes.  ;D

Three good friends over for dinner. Two large dogs, belonging to one of the friends, arrived on their own (unescorted) a full five minutes before anyone else. Attached illustration is as follows (top to bottom):

1) Chop chop chop. doin' the red and white taters, red onions, carrots, mushrooms and lots of garlic.
2) Early morning in PJs with a latte (I've mercifully spared you a photo of me with bedhead, which is atrocious now that my hair is down to my shoulders) I brown a 4.5 lb. pork butt in a pan on the grill outside (actually the shoulder is called 'butt' ...I dunno why; I brined it overnight with lots of cloves and garlic) in a seasoned flour mixture with chili and onion powder, etc... incorporated.
3) Woefully overfilled slow cooker (it's a 10-cup model, but not big enough) ...the homemade chicken stock goes up about 2/3rds of the way.
4) Seven low-wattage hours later: Ta-daa! Roast pork nirvana!
5) Mise en scène: served with buttered farfalle (aka bow tie pasta), the slow-cooked veg, some sauteed kale with preserved lemon, a nice salad and plenty of wine (red and white: an Italian Pinot Grigio and a red of unknown provenance).
6) Not pictured: TJ's organic 72% cacao Belgian dark chocolate plus more wine for dessert. Happy conversation and much dog amusement was enjoyed.

^--Very good, and a bargain price!

I did a kale salad, baked spuds and thin-sliced ribeye. My wife will only eat meat that has been cooked to death, so I put mine under hers for broiling, and about halfway thru cooking I smoother both in mushrooms. That way mine is tolerable, and hers is done enough.
Someday, chi1dren, this entire fuck-up will be yours.
