Feesh! With a grilled corn relish and Triple-S baby bok choy:

Salty (from shredded preserved cabbage)
Sour (from preserved lemons)
Spicy (from chili-garlic paste)

...anyone who attempts to eat it without a generous supply of rice and cold beer tempts fate. ;)

...where a debate about whether they're all-natural or 'enhanced' would promptly ensue! :P ;)

Edited later to include a recent dinner photo. ;)

I made vegetable bisque last night. Served with a small scoop of brown jasmine rice in the middle of the bowl and a biscuit on the side. Comfort food for a November evening. :)

Perfectly al dente Pennette with young asparagus and shreds of smoked ham, quickly carmelized with onions and yellow peppers in a very hot pan. A wee bit of butter and just a dusting of parmesan and viola: ecstasy. Served with a nice Merlot from Trader Joe's and Joshua Tree (an earlyish U2 album).

:)

(I was on the wrong page, but never let that stop a dumb joke, so...)

You garnished your dinner with parmesan and a viola? Holy crap.

How I miss our Notty. :( :( :(

As do we all.

Quote
Added later: dinner for one tonight :( which consisted of a salmon steak and sweet potato wedges on the grill, along with red rice and a mixed salad. Served with a nice Pinot Grigio and afterwards a piece of German Chocolate cake (which I did not make as baking is a skill I've yet to find time to develop).

If you decide to try baking, I recommend the way I learned: The Idiot's Guide to Baking--1) Buy a bunch of mixes; 2) Bake 'em up; 3) Figure out what is in the mix--usually flour and spices--and try it from scratch.

I know this is the dinner thread but yesterdays taco night turned into me dropping the entire tray of food onto the floor.

So it became chips and salsa with leftovers night.

No photo this time, but for dinner tonight I made:

Past-Due Pepper Pasta

...which is basically al dente Rummo brand Fusili mixed (sans any tomato sauce at all) with ALL of the various sorts of peppers that have been left in the garden too long (I get a sort of modest second harvest for some veggies due to the pleasant clime here in SoCal but December is pretty late for summer plants regardless). Tonight that would include Shishito, Banana and Bell, along with one other kind of pepper with a name that eludes me as thoroughly and often as that of any of the half-dozen vintage brunettes I'm so fond of. The mystery pepper is Japanese in origin... like so many other things that I'm also very fond of: food, beer, wine, women, technology, temperment, cultural spirit, etc...

Of course, there's more to it than just pasta and peppers: before the water was boiling I'd begun an olive oil/butter saute that included two kinds of garlic (regular minced and sliced Korean pickled) a red onion and (eventually) some sliced rounds of chicken asiago sausage (that I defrosted in the pasta water... a modest amount really more for flavor than protein quotient) and a few thinly sliced small new potatoes. Everything gets pushed around in the pan until nicely caramelized and there's not too much of any one ingredient: everything's in balance, including seasonings.

At the end, a few crumbles of Gorgonzola (from Trader Joe's), a sprinkle of Parmesan and a big pile of minced Basil (also in the December remnants of my garden) were added. As of this writing, I've managed to exercise enough self-control to not have seconds.

Yet.

And again no pic (sorry :() but I made a pot roast in the slow cooker last night: seasoned and browned everything in a wok first: the beef shoulder, white potatoes, carrots, red onions, etc...  Even made a proper roux to thicken the stock at the end. Served with buttered farfalle and asparagus. A nice Cabernet too. My dinner guest and I enjoyed it immensely (plus I've got leftovers!). :D
