Yeah, it's kind of like a caricature of the old design - personally, I never really got why people love the design of the old Enterprise so much, I actually think most of the Federation ships are a bit dull - except the Defiant, which is rockin'.

I'm still fully expecting this to be a popcorn movie...

 Looking at that photo, I'm a bit put-off by the excessively smooth and protrusion-free exterior surfaces as well... if this is the EARLIEST Enterprise, I'd have expected a design with a bit more utilitarian 20th/21st century look to it... like the Enterprise in Star Trek Enterprise or Daedelus in  Stargate SG1, both of which LOOK like they were built with near-future technology and practices.

The ship also looks a bit like it was designed by the same companies that produce cheap, gaudy ground-effects bolt-ons for econobox boy-racers, but maybe that's more a result of today's audience demographics.

I'm late to the party as well, but the warp nascelles do look a tad too close to the saucer section.  You'd think that given the "warp science" (from what I can remember) that such proximity would cause the saucer section to be directly affected.

They are going to have to retcon the ENTIRETY of the universe to get this to work

Bones would have been in his late 40s when Kirk Had graduated and Spock would have been close to 80.

I'm sure it's a matter of opinion but I feel that bears out my fattening remarks. Also, I notice they've made it a lot shinier... The nacelles, the huge dish... but then I suppose that the uniform and fairly smooth surface it had before wasn't interesting enough... and probably borne of limited budget.
