That photo brought back memories of when I was a k1d. We used to own an old 17" black and white Zenith TV ( The quality goes in before the name goes on. Old commercial. ) and every so often one of the vacuum tubes would burn out and the TV would go kaput. Dad was ready though because he had behind the TV a strong flashlight and since you knew not just one would burn out, he would shine the light on all of them and pull out the ones that burned out. The back cover had 16 screws to hold it to the TV main body but Dad removed 12 of them and just the four in each corner were mounted on so that it wouldn't take so long to remove. Anyways, we would then go to Sears and buy them and of course, before we purchased them we would go to the test stand and see that they were good and then you purchased them. We'd go home and I would assist by holding the flashlight so Dad could see behind the TV and place the vacuum tubes in their proper place. After we put the back cover back on, Dad would go up on the roof and readjust the antenna because it had to be done if you didn't want snow on the screen.  He'd yell " How's it look ? " and we would yell back " Move it to  the right or left or It's good " and this was common throughout the neighborhood in those days.  This was back in the early to mid 60's. Dad didn't want to pay a TV repairman because he thought most of them were pirates who overcharged for their service. Yup, we would do most of our own car repair and maintenance ourselves too. Anyways, I hope I didn't bore you guys too much.

Yup, we would do most of our own car repair and maintenance ourselves too.

I've always done my own auto repairs, albeit it is getting harder to do these days with the the electronics onboard.
