They could use signs like that on the Trans-Canada Highway too.  Some of the prairie sections are dreary as heck.  I damn near ran off the road in Saskatchewan.

I'm not a smartphone zombie but I remember the first time I visited London, I nearly got knocked down by a car because I didn't look right before stepping inro the road. Fortunately, nowadays they paint in big letters on the roadside the direction you should look in before crossing the street.

Most of downtown Calgary's roads are one way too, so the same thing there.
