Like Gonzo said, I've also been told that the amount can vary considerably within the same day, too. For example, people tend to have higher blood pressure whenever they're near a doctor (or needles).

Yes; it's referred to in the profession as "white coat hypertension".
Someday, chi1dren, this entire fuck-up will be yours.

Yes, that's the term I heard (and couldn't remember).

..and I share your enthusiasm for exercise.
Thank you for your patience as I indulge my need to share.

I'm not crazy about exercise either.  There seems to be a pattern developing here...

Normally my BP is a shade on the high side (something like 130 over 75-80) but recently I went in for something completely unrelated (pulled muscle) and got my BP checked as per standard procedure.

120/70.

She commented it was a wee bit low.  I added that that was an understatement.  This nurse (first time I think I've dealt with her) asked whether that was unusual.  I said yes in general, and in particular due to the fact that I'd already had 4 espressos that morning, and this wasn't even 12 noon yet.  She said something like "Well maybe they haven't kicked in yet."  Wtf!?

As for exercise, I've always tended towards avoiding it.  The whole idea of lifting weights in a gym or doing mundane cardio does a pre-emptive strike to the boredom cortex of my brain.

20 years ago I would have wanted the muscles but not spend the time.  These days it's quite a bit easier; I don't know why, but I seem to be able to get into a zone.  And I hit those weights pretty hard, usually there for at least 90 mins if not longer, and I usually stop when I get to the point where I start to feel a bit crappy.  Not just diminishing strength, but feeling light-headed, a bit spinny, and seriously demotivated.  And yet I still manage to make progress with just about every visit to the gym.

These days I only get out there once a week, but I'm at Aikido at least 3 other days of the week, so....

The thought of watching a good movie on TV and having a beer is still far more enticing.

And IG, glad to hear you've got some relief.  Mystery ailments are rarely comforting.

After some fun adventures over the last couple of days (apparently, even some frightening times where I forgot what day it was and what we were doing, and passing out) I am feeling better. I went to the doctor yesterday (and this took some time, because one couldn't make it in due to weather, and was in a distant town) and got checked out. For the first time in a long time, my blood pressure was indeed, very bad. 130 over 100. Whether this was a symptom of the pain, or a cause of the pain remains to be seen. However, he checked me out thoroughly and said that he wanted a CAT scan, just to make sure that there wasn't something more serious. He doubted it, but of course, wanted to make sure. The scan was quick, and relatively painless, and the results were quick. In the immortal words "Its not a tumor!" So, he prescribed some medicine. One was to kill the headache. Relpax. Boy, did it work. I didn't like the side effects (made my neck and chest feel weird and heavy, but within the bounds of the normal side effects) but my head finally felt okay. He also prescribed some preventative medicine that I was doubtful about at first, but after reading about it, am less upset about. Nortritylin. I helped me **82** last night, and today I woke up without a headache. I actually feel human. So, hopefully this will help me get back on a regular routine (I haven't been **83** more than about three to four hours a night in some time) and get me back to my old loveable, less grouchy self. Thanks for the well wishes and concern, guys! It looks like I"m gonna be okay!

Maybe this whole experience awoke some dormant part of your brain, like in the Dead Zone, or Scanners. Holy David Cronenberg!

Nah. My brains been strangely awake and crazy for some years now. It does things without telling me and I'm constantly surprised by the things it has to say. Though it would be cool to have some nifty head exploding powers.

I have a suggestion:

Q-"If you had powers, that is"-BE

EDIT: BTW, IowaGuy, get well soon! I myself have had what you could call chronic headaches for awhile now, and I am beginning to wonder if they matter at all. Rather, it seems to me that these "separate" headaches are just the increases in tension to my head that seems to be there all the time, especially in my temples and frontal lobe. Guess that's my big, bulging...brain, no?
