Tarawa. (Tarawa atoll is the location of the capital of Kiribati and the location of a truly bloody battle between the US Marine Corps and the Japanese Army in World War 2. I did go there when I was in the Navy back in 1984.)

Midway. (Another atoll located between North America and East Asia, specifically the USA and Japan, which was the location of the Battle of Midway, which became the most important Naval battle of World War 2 by ruining the Japanese Navy by having four aircraft carriers sunk by the US Navy and turning Japan into the less powerful military in the Pacific, after all, it happened in June 4-6 of 1942 or seven months after the Battle of Pearl Harbor Hawaii of December 7, 1941, which forced the USA into World War 2.)

Wake (This USA atoll is between Japan and Hawaii, and it was captured by the Japanese after the Battle of Pearl Harbor and all the American Marines and Sailors were killed off and a nickname it had was The Alamo of the Pacific just like the Mexican Army killed off all the Texans at the Alamo in San Antonio. It was recaptured at the end of World War 2 and it is still used as a landing site by the Navy, Marine Corps and US Air Force.

Lagoon. (Many atolls have lagoons within them.)
