It appears as if that specific episode "Laws of Attraction" has been removed from the upcoming play list.

Some digging reveals that the concepts, testing and even the title of the episode may have been taken from a preexisting source that has raised legal issues because of it. This may be one of those Mythbusters that never sees the light of day due to legality.

It continues to feel more and more like what used to be a little garage band has just become the puppet of the networks and marketing.

That sounds like an excuse to me. 90% of what they do on that show is 'adapted' from existing/prior shows and movies, including actual recreations as part of their testing. I don't buy the 'legal issues' thing... haven't googled a single byte but it sounds fishy to me. With rare exceptions (like trademarks) titles aren't protected by copyright in the strictest sense (which is why you often find multiple movies with the same title at IMDB)  and concepts are borrowed ALL the time... half of what's on TV these days is remakes with just enough tweaks to avoid having to pay licensing fees. Though they clearly shot the Kari wears falsies footage, the whole thing felt too overtly racy and fanservicey to me for MB... I'd not be surprised if someone there (producers/creators) gave it some thought and changed their mind, putting the kabosh on it before the air date. Given the quantity of online chatter, I'm sure various theories will rear their heads very soon... and I'd not be surprised if the segment or parts of it gets distributed eventually anyway, even if not via the regular broadcast.

Oh, I totally agree - the little bit of digging reveals that there is much more going on behind the office doors of the MB producers. What has been most disappointing has been the slow progression toward a much more "reality TV" feel and away from a "Science" show. Yes, there is still some science in there but it feels much more like a veneer now.

Also - the issue regarding the name was not so much that the exact same name was used (that happens all the time) but rather that the show content was nearly the same along with the title.

Sort of like if someone made a re-make of a movie but did not credit the original in any way, used the same title and did it about 2 years after the first... someone might raise a fuss. (but that is a whole other topic)

That's Discovery channel in general, they are going for the TLC model which has removed any "learning" from their content.  Look at Discovery's first scripted drama Klondike, was a mess historically and quality writing, but they got it because of the boom of gold finding shows doing well in the ratings.  Mythbusters is like a cheap Top Gear now, the gags are the primary focus, doesn't sound like any of the dialogue is natural or ad-libbed anymore.

That is a good summation of what has slowly been happening to the show over the years. I have never seen Top Gear but I know what you mean. Yes, the dialogue just does not feel natural any longer. Where have all the good quotes gone? It all feels very put on now and as you say, "gags are the primary focus".

One need only dig around the website for some of the oldest clips to see how the show feel has changed. However, even the website has been modified slowly and now much of that "early approach" has been edited out or is no longer easy to find.

I have already commented on the now famous bikini Mentos advertising bit from several years ago and how now the version on-line is a much more polished, edited and cropped clip minus much of the behind-the-scenes elements in which Keri makes it clear that she was well aware of what she was doing, why she was in front of the camera, and being 30 at the time she was no newbie to the process. It just shows how the content has been repackaged to fit better into the Channel's newer approach to programing...

I have to admit that back when the show started I had no idea that she was in her late 20's - She was almost 29 the first time she was on-camera but she looked, dressed and acted like she was 19.

I think the show will go the way of Dirty Jobs and HBO's Bullshit!: When they run out of interesting stuff to show, they'll cancel the series.

I just hope this never happens to How It's Made, the last remaining highlight from that time about 12 years ago when Discovery decided to get off the TLC path...

Mod edit: I didn't know 'How it's Made' was still in production... whenever I see one it feels like a rerun. If you like it, you should check out PBS's 'Raw to Ready' too. :) -Pal

There is not that much out on the web from that lost episode.
Also, there are a few sites that erroneously use images from there to validate that she has had plastic surgery.  ::)

Anyone can reconstruct a timeline of her actual size via stills from the show. There have been no sudden shifts, no odd disappearances only to return sporting a new front. Her size now is exactly where you would expect a woman her proportions to be given her track record.

Yes, sometimes she has had a little padding but nothing close to the one-time big size used in the lost episode.

It should be mentioned that there was consideration that she test all three sizes of boob; small, medium and large. That means that she was able to portray all three. They eventually worked it that she was participating in a more limited fashion and the images of her as "large" were more for publicity and only a little to do with the testing phase, i.e. it ended up on the cutting room floor.

Unfortunately I do not think we have caught an episode in the last 6 months.

Hah! You know nothing of thread necros in the BEA. You bumped a thread with <1 month since the last post, I've seen people bump threads with >9 years since the last post.

Yeah, this was far from a necro anyway - not that much time had elapsed and the reviving post actually dealt with the topic matter rather specifically in the form of a important update. No need for any apology in my mind.

It will be interesting to see if there are any obvious changes in the episode from the few bits that were known earlier.
Given the amount of difficulty in getting this actually on the air it might be smart to have recording equipment at the ready for this may be the only time we will ever see the "whole" thing... even if edited. (or they may have patched things up and all is OK)

There are times that thread necromancy is a good thing. There have been some threads here that were reinvigorated simply because so much time had passed.

That or to help cut down on duplicate posts or people simply not using the search.
