Some of that might be overcompensation. My mermaids were a more minor part of Elf Life, and their anatomy was rarely an issue in the story. I would use the mermaids occasionally to promote the comic, but found that folks clicking on the mermaid got bored quick with the more bigger fantasy story.
I did an "apocryphal" Elf Life story that made more use of the mermaids, just recently restored online, but without notes or anything. Starts here:
http://www.antelucan.com/babes/2005-02-14.phpMy biggest problem writing Elf Life was not characterization or anything like that (I'm quite proud of the depth of many of the characters) but every so often the stories run aground before I quite finish because of this or that disaster that pulls me away from it.
So now I may be erring too much in trying to focus too narrowly. I do kind of wish at this point I could start Oopsie over again, with a slightly different focus. I particularly like this last batch of comics, and as we move forward, we'll more away from being quite so boob-centric.
Spoiler warning! Let's see what's coming up.... since nobody asked...

We're going to find out that Moneesha did something awful when she crashed that jet-- she wasn't the only one on the plane, but was actually helping some clients out, a punk rap goth band who were determined to commit suicide in order to bolster their record sales.
But Moneesha -- who is going to abandon the name Moneesha, as she is now in hiding for her own reasons -- was testing something Beryl had told her about the local animals that she chose to believe -- that they are not just "talking animals", which is of course absurd -- but cursed and reincarnated humans bound to the land. And so she wants to see if her clients (who are going to commit suicide anyway) will be brought back to life.
Meanwhile, Hector's identity will be revealed. When Beryl lived there with her Gammy for a couple of summers, a young stable boy that Gammy had hired to help out cornered Beryl in the barn and seduced her there. Hector is the spirit of that young man, cursed to keep working the farm, as hard as he can.
Beryl, who discovers her identity as an agent of nature, may either be the cause of this curse or the one who can break it. And she will try to bring Hector back into the land of the living.
I don't identify him as such yet on the site, but here's a drawing of Hector in his human form:

When Moneesha asked Beryl how she *knows* the young man who first made love to her is Hector, she's going to reply that naturally -- he was hung like a horse.
