I've quickly caught up on "The Neighbors" and while it's not worthy of an entry in the VCR Alerts, I do enjoy the two leading ladies.  Jami Gertz has been a fairly steady presence in comedy roles for a while, and still looks great; but it's been a real treat to see new (to me) actress Toks Olagundoye, who's not only gorgeous but also has some terrific expressions and delivery.  Unfortunately, there's not a lot of pics of her out there and she spends most of her screentime in preppie golf-wear, but thankfully I found a screencap from the recent episode where she attempts to physically seduce her husband (rightclick and open image in new tab/window for fullsize):

One of those "retro TV" channels was regularly showing episodes of the original "Outer Limits" and "Sea Hunt," but now they've dumped all that for "Green Acres."  Fuckers.

I've been riding motorcycles for 28 years now and me and my biker buddies were at first very excited about Sons Of Anarchy coming on air. After watching a few episodes, we decided it was just a vehicle using bikers to air a night-time soap opera.

OK, time for an update...

Started watching:

Inside Combat Rescue on Discovery: military paramedic teams chopper around Afghanistan doing God's work.
Vikings on History: like Game of Thrones but without quite so much of the pay-cable gore and nudity, a character-driven historical drama... decent so far.
The Americans on FX: Russian sleeper agents living and working in Reagan's dystopian America. An uneven drama but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't devolve into the waste of time that Fox's The Following has. And yes, Keri Russell is still very doable though a bit gaunt.

Still watching:

Fast N' Loud on NatGeo: the only car customization show this gearhead can stomach, thanks to Richard and Aaron who actually seem like people rather than charactictures. Truth be told, Aaron's awesome beard also deserves some of the credit.
Futurama on ComedyCentral: if you don't know what this is by now, please accept my condolences on your premature passing.
Adventure Time on Cartoon Network: perhaps the one show that I most look forward to each week, this is purportedly a kid's show but has more than enough charm, detail and dramatic hints at backstory for even the most sophisticated adult viewer. Plus, it's often very funny.
Dual Survival on Discovery: a survival show... I miss Dave Canterbury despite the fact it seems that he exaggerated his credentials.
Justified on FX: ah, life would probably be easier if I were as tall, dark and handsome as Timothy Olyphant... but I watch because it's a wry and stylish drama with a good cast and not because of a man-crush.
Alaska State Troopers on NatGeo: I don't watch it religiously, but will catch an episode now and then, as much for the setting as for the calls (I spent some time up there myself and think of it often).
Southland on TNT: somehow managing to remain a great cop show with a big ensemble cast... most of the shootouts are filmed within walking distance of my home.
Archer on FX: kitschy animated spy show with fanservice-influenced female characters... what's not to like?
Yukon Men on Discovery: like Alaska State Troopers, I watch occasionally as much for the setting as for the people/events.
Venture Bros. on Cartoon Network: about halfway between Adventure Time and Archer on the Palomine Genre Spectrum Index, it has kitsch, humor and Dr. Girlfriend's voluptuous bod in a Jackie O. pink Chanel suit, complete with pillbox hat.
Nova on PBS (but not Nova: Science Now, which is intolerable due to the host, who's an entertaining writer but basically unwatchable on television).
Frontline on PBS.
Downton Abbey on PBS.
Masterpiece Mysteries on PBS. I'll watch any of them other than the Agatha Christie ones. Sherlock is probably my favorite, though I like Zen, Lewis, Morse, Wallander, etc... When are they all going to return?
Walking Dead on AMC: still entertaining, but I don't know how long they can keep it up. By which I mean my interest.
Mad Men on AMC (and no, not just because if I had to choose a method of execution, I'd ask to be smothered to death in Christina Hendrick's bosom).

I may give these a try:

Bates Motel on A&E: if it's a Psycho retelling for the Twilight audience, I won't get through the first hour (premiering tonight as it happens). First 30-second impression: I'm a little concerned about the reliance on wide angle lenses, handheld cameras and 'strings' setting on the synthesizer, but I'll try to keep an open mind for the next 59 minutes).
Defiance on SyFy: considering how uninterested the SyFy channel seems to be in actual science fiction, my hopes for this are modest, but I'll give it a go.

...and I pretty much don't watch/ignore everything else. I also almost never watch any movie I've already seen before, nor do many new ones look good enough for me to me to commit 2-3 hours of my life to them.

I really tried, but have given up on:

The Following on Fox: that serial killer vs FBI profiler thing with Kevin Bacon. I had hopes it'd be good, but they were dashed in a morass of cliche, formula and predicible plot points. Don't feel sorry for Mr. Bacon: he still gets to go to bed with Kyra Sedgewick every night.
Top Gear on History: somehow, the American version gets worse with each passing season and wasn't great to begin with (if it's actual information about cars you want). It's degenerated into an endless ejaculate of pointless contests and silly stunts designed to appeal to an audience not quite old enough yet to drive themselves. I'll watch the original Brit version online instead... where a guy can actually absorb some automotive ephemera and a enjoy bit of genuine chemistry between the hosts.
SyFy channel movies: as intentionally intriuging as next Saturday's 'Chupacabra vs. the Alamo' might sound, it and the hundreds of similar low-budget, made-for-tv movies that SyFy uses to fill air time are just pointless dreck, lacking even a smidge of irony or joy. Why they won't adapt old SF short stories now in the public domain and use the money to make films based on those (without depending on schlocky effects and a bit of T&A) is beyond me. Well, I know why: because they wouldn't expect to be able to sell ad time for that sort of thing. It's a sad situation when SF fans have literally nothing at all left to watch on SyFy.

Shows I can't bring myself to watch even though they feature gorgeous leading ladies:

The Good Wife on CBS: Julianna Margulies has pushed my buttons since her earliest appearances on ER, but I can't bring myself to watch another law firm drama, despite her oh-so-pretty face.
Body of Proof on ABC: ah, Dana Delany... to refer to her as a MILF would be missing the point. Yes, she's old enough to be somebody's mom but so what? She's unrelentingly easy on the eyes. But like ABC's The Good Wife, the genre has been so overdone that I can't manage to sit through an episode of Body, even though Dana is a delight (and I'm not opposed to Jeri Ryan in a knit dress either).

Are Futurama and/or Venture Brothers into their new seasons yet?  Not that I wouldn't watch their reruns, but I'm more interested in when they air new episodes since I've kept up with both previously.

In addition to those and Adventure Time (for much the same reasons listed by Pal), my picks for animated series (though these may be colored somewhat by nostalgia) include:
TMNT--captures a lot of the crazy-fun of the original series and combines it with the better characterizations and stronger plotlines of the previous series to make for a great new series.  Latest scuttlebutt is that it may have already been approved for a 3rd season, and it's not even finished with its first, which is darn impressive.
Transformers Prime--another great spin on an '80s franchise that combines many of the best parts of previous versions to make a distinct series worth watching.
I'll be missing Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Young Justice, which were both very good and someone (either Warner Brothers or Cartoon Network, or maybe both) really screwed up in cancelling them.  I'm dubious about their replacements (a Batman show and a chibi-fied Teen Titans), though I'll probably give them a chance anyway.

Returning to stuff that's airing currently (though not animated), I'm still watching the dramas:
Once Upon A Time--There's been a lot of plot threads kicked up and weaved into the show ever since magic came to present-day Storybrooke at the end of season 1, which has complicated things to the detriment of some of the character relationships.  It's still going strong, but hopefully they don't go off the rails with convolutions and don't sacrifice the fairy-tale characters along the way.
Grimm--It's gotten a bit wrapped up with big plotlines around the politics within the show's mythos and dragged a bit with an amnesia storyline, but it also had a huge break in episode airings and now that it's back it seems to have gotten some forward traction right out the gate.

For current comedy series, I'm tuning in to:
The Neighbors--This show embraces its outlandish premise of there being a secret community of stranded aliens who befriend a typical family that moves in to their secluded development.  It's absurdly silly and mostly lighthearted but with a "heartwarming" core sensibility.  Also a touch of self-awareness ("We'll just live vicariously through 'Third Rock From the Sun' reruns"), which I can appreciate.
I hardly think I need to write out descriptions for Parks and Recreation and Community, both of which I enjoy greatly.

I think that's about it...plus, I believe I've run out of different text colors to use.

Gonna put in a quick note/recommendation for "Defiance" on the SciFi (*sigh* okay, SyFy) channel.

Short summary of the premise: a fleet of spaceships with a variety of alien races arrived at Earth expecting to find an uninhabited world they could terraform (well, xenoform I guess) into a replacement for their destroyed homeworld.  Contact didn't go well, the fleet was destroyed and a war broke out between the humans and the surviving aliens.  Unfortunately, the xenoforming hardware in the orbiting wreckage fell to Earth and quickly (and uncontrollably) altered the landscape.  At some point, the alien and human soldiers gave up fighting in the middle of a battle in order to save each other, and there's been relative peace ever since as everyone's tried to work out how to live together on the semi-transformed Earth.

There's been some criticism that it uses a lot of staple scifi tropes, but I don't have a problem with that and I think the premise/setting and characters are interesting enough to keep me tuned in, as well as the promise of a long-term plot around some mysterious device that some secretive antagonists are pursuing.

Oh, and lest I forget: the albino-esque Castithans are fond of bathing, which so far has offered several opportunities to see the gorgeous Jaime Murray in barely any clothing.  So that's pretty cool.

I've watched all of Defiance on SyFy so far (Gah! ...the 'SyFy' spelling is still mighty irksome! ) and try as I might to get into it (or even merely enjoy it enough to not feel like the hour spent watching has been wasted) it's a close thing. Yes, I can forgive the tired tropes, formulaic characters and unbearably heavy reliance on CG (yes, they built a big set, but that doesn't seem to keep tons of mediocre rendered footage out of the broadcast cut). And it's not like I'm actually expecting something new and exciting, or even somewhat original. I just want something that entertains without insulting my intelligence or wasting my time and while (so far) Defiance is hardly the worst drama on basic cable, it's miles away from being the best. Extensive art direction and laser shoot-em-ups do not, by themselves, make for great television.

The first couple of minutes of the very first episode of Defiance ...where two of the main characters oddly (but charmingly) sing to each other (Johnny & June Carter Cash's "Jackson" of all things!) were, in my opinion, the very best part of the entire series so far. For those few minutes (and just a couple beyond) it seemed like Defiance just might possibly be something novel and imaginative. Sadly, it's all been downhill from there, though I'll probably continue to watch for a few more weeks in hopes it'll get better.

Added Tuesday:

FUTURAMA HAS BEEN CANCELLED AGAIN!

Well, that might be because they've released a video game to be played alongside the series, so they might as well get as much cross-referencing imagery and such crammed in there.  Like the various weaponry (the game's an online multiplayer shooter) and things like the hellbugs and other flora/fauna.  Still, it's got a good pedigree with a couple of the guys in charge coming from Farscape and BSG/Caprica; they've created series around protagonists who have to find a new personal/cultural identity with each other in the face of an unpredicatable/altered world before, I'm reasonably confident they can do it again.  So far there's been mainly stories establishing the way things currently stand, with some indications of where things might go...I'm guessing at some point (possibly when Julie Benz gets elected Mayor, you just know that's going happen) things will pick up and take off for real.  I'm certainly willing to hang in and see what gets set up (and other world-building stuff) in the meantime.  Don't think I'll get the game though--not into the online-multiplayer scene.  Oh, and it does help that Warehouse 13 comes on afterwards; I enjoy it and the promos seem to promise more Jaime Murray there too.

Sad news about Futurama, though.
