People who think that reading the Internet is "research" are the new definition of stupid.

The irony is that because they do their "research" online, they mistakenly believe themselves to be well-informed. Criticial thinking can be taught, but no one bothers to learn that online. :) Why bother, when black helicopters, a one-world government and chemical mists being distributed by airliners are all so much sexier? :D

Back to topic: I spent most of the holiday binge-watching season three of "The Americans." Even fast-forwarding through commercials, 13 episodes is quite a lot. Lucky for me, the show is well written and capably put together. Plus of course, Keri Russell's been taking her pants off a lot this season.

So sue me ...a small but shapely derrière counts for something! ;)

To paraphrase Marvin the Paranoid Android of the Hitchhiker's Guide series (in response to a query if he's lying):
"Reality is terrible enough as it is.  Why would I want to invent more of it?"

In the meantime, we seem to have pretty well entered the rerun-doldrums of the summer, with most shows having aired their season finales (and a new rush of reality/game show programming beginning).  Here's my SPOILERY roundup of opinion:

Gotham:  The show did pretty well with extended mini-arcs of 3-4 episodes, but the finale went all-out as pretty much every major character LOST IT and went nuts.  I didn't really think it needed a shakeup, but I don't think it'd wreck the show; certainly I'm pleased with Bruce's discovery of the cavern underneath the mansion and I'm enough of a fan of Batman and his supporting players to tune in and see what develops next season.  One item of note: it seems they decided to kill off the protagonist's original love interest from the very first episode of the series, apparently the writers couldn't figure out any further prospects of interest and just unimaginatively ditched her.

Sleepy Hollow:  The introduction of the relic hunter guy was pretty well unnecessary, but it brought us Jaime Murray for an episode and possible future appearances, so that's always a plus.  Also a pretty cool extremist angel character who'd make a good villain, especially since big bad Moloch and all his schemes have been pretty well trashed.  Also trashed is basically everything about Ichabod's family (and associated melodrama), which frankly was one of the dragging elements of the season that made everything tiresome and took away from the great chemistry & rapport between Ichabod & Abbie that had been a drawing point from the first season.  Doing so meant that Katrina, the protagonist's original love interest from the very first episode of the series, was killed off because apparently the writers couldn't figure out any further prospects of interest and just unimaginatively ditched her.  Anyway, the upshot is that the core characters that did a great job of establishing the show in the first place are back to being the center of the series (apparently), so I'll be tuning in to see where they go with it.

Grimm:  Yes!  Trubel's back, Wu's in, the Royals & major associates are largely dead, Adalind and her magic offspring are being carted off with a nice freedom fighter (to hopefully never drag down a plotline, especially since the aforementioned Royals that would pursue her are largely dead).  Unfortunately, we lost the Grimmebago and Nick's mother, which will no doubt be the source of much angst down the line, especially because it was at the hands of recently hexenbeist-ed Juliette (whose storyline wasn't terribly enjoyable even before the evilness, simply because it had been nice to have a supernatural series with a stable romantic relationship).  So it made sense that she was offed too, though it means they decided to kill off the protagonist's original love interest from the very first episode of the series, apparently the writers couldn't figure out any further prospects of interest and just unimaginatively ditched her.  I'm not looking forward to the fallout of angst, but since a lot of the chaff seems to have been ditched, I'll be tuning in anyway next season.

So for those keeping score of my not-entirely-subtle phrasing, that's THREE shows that decided it was important to kill off an important/original female member of the ensemble in order to continue forward, because there was apparently no way for the character to meaningfully contribute anything further.  That's...kind of a bothersome incidence, really, but it seems that's the way it is for these genre shows, and it doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the writing.

Once Upon A Time:  One of the show's strengths has been in exploring various familial relationships, and while that did (and does) mean a fair amount of soap-opera-style drama, it's mostly been pretty well supported by the acting and decent/mostly consistent characterization by the writers.  Well, the last half of the season pretty well tossed out a bunch of the characterization of the central Charming family while also playing up the Author storyline, which had little connection to any of the families and while ostensibly about what defines heroes & villains, and still did a pretty awful job there too.  The wreckage left me not really caring about all the melodrama anymore, not even with introducing two characters who are DRAGONS.  I'm not certain if I'll bother tuning in next season, this seems like as good a stopping point as any...actually, probably could blot out anything that happened after the Snow Queen story ended midseason and Rumple got booted from town.

Agents of SHIELD:  The Inhumans arc has been pretty good, it didn't really link in to the Avengers movie but it didn't have to, and probably benefited from not having to be tied down to those events.  Also, didn't see the twist of Skye's mother being totally evil and ganking Adama coming, plus we got Skye's dad as Mr. Hyde, which actually was pretty well built up without being blatantly broadcast.  It's too bad he's mindwiped, but I'm sure that can be reverted when they need to make a Masters of Evil group/storyline.  I'm guessing the Terrigen Mist Fish Oil pills is going to be this series version of the Flash's Particle Accelerator explosion, but I don't mind if it brings some fun/interested powered characters into the mix, which is why I'll be tuning in next season.

The Flash:  Spent the episode worrying about a major timeline shift ala Flashpoint, only to have the twist reveal of Future Barry (in the past) signal Present Barry (also in the past) to avoid making changes, which was a relief.  Unmaking the Reverse Flash was cool except for the part where that confounds the timeline EVEN MORE.  I'm guessing there'll be a hand-wavy explanation using the multidimensional timehole to explain that mess, hopefully from Rip Hunter as Rory Williams Arthur Darville has loads of experience trying to sell nonsensical time-travel gobbledygook to an audience from his other show about Steven Moffat a lunatic in a blue box.  Speaking of, I'm VERY much looking forward to the spinoff "Legends of Tomorrow" series with the aforementioned Rory Williams Rip Hunter gathering up a ragtag group of DC characters for crazy time-hopping adventure.  And even with a cuckoo timeywimey explanation, I'm still tuning into this next season because it's been loads of fun, and I hope the paradox still allows Reverse Flash to return, because he really was an awesome villain even as Harrison Wells.

That just leaves iZombie to get to its finale, and I've been enjoying it so far, so unless they somehow go completely off the rails I expect I'll be looking forward to its next season too.  I have to admit that the CW's current live-action DC-verse and comic-related series are pretty much knocking it out of the park for entertainment value (for me, anyway).  I'm not sure if the upcoming Supergirl series will match this quality, being on CBS as it is...I'm kinda planning on finding out anyway.  Also, I only learned this afternoon that there was a Defiance marathon on SciFi, which annoys me since I pretty much missed its entire previous season and would love to have caught up all in one fell swoop.  Also, you can never watch too much footage of Jaime Murray.  ;)
be seeing you...

"Golan the Insatiable" has moved from FOX's ADHD late night programming to what presumably is a summer replacement/test series on Sunday nights. I have read in a couple of comment sections that fans are upset that FOX changed voice actors for the new series. Big deal.

I can't help but wonder how many of these "fans" know that Golan debuted at Something Awful.com in 2010?
http://www.somethingawful.com/news/golan-insatiable-letter/1/

Anyway, the last episode, "Winter is Staying", Golan meets up with an enormously bosomed clerk at Oak Grove's Town Hall. He gets to do what we'd all love to do: plant his face into her cleavage.

No pics, sorry.....

The ground is deep with fallen leaves and nuts of White and Red Oak, and of Beech, that line and fill the footprints and the ruts which all along the wooded pathway reach. First claim, of course, to chipmunk and to squirrel for bleak mid-Winter sustenance belongs, as all around old leaves descend and twirl about, through feathered autumn songs.

Yah I saw Golan and noticed his voice was different from when it was on Animation Domination... Golan is now voice by The Daily Show's Rob Riggle and Dylan is now voiced by Aubrey Plaza, an actress I know of only from occasional appearances in the Morph Request forum. :P ;) The cast change didn't bother me, but then again, there was nothing the matter with the original voice actors either IMO. I'll catch it as I can (I did see the bosomy librarian of course ;)) but my DVR only has a single tuner, so I'm usually going to miss it in favor of some other show (Sunday night is the best night for TV IMO). Currently on Sunday night, I'm watching DCI Banks on one of the dozen-or-so PBS stations. It's a decent Brit cop show, but I like it mostly for Caroline Catz, who's probably better known as Louisa Glasson on Doc Martin.

Been watching a lot of Archer reruns lately, and enjoying them... even though I've seen most of the episodes already. I also think Kreiger's holographic anime girlfriend is pretty cute. ;) Tangentially, I never ceased to be amused by the fact that all the computers at IS1S look like Apple Lisas. ;)

I know that some folks dismiss China, IL (now in its third late-night season on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim ...it began life as internet shorts) as not worth watching due to (what they consider to be) the relatively simplistic animation. However, in reality it's on par with early Simpsons from an animation POV, and in some cases, it's just as funny and entertaining.

With that said, I'm generally not a fan of one-off "musical" episodes... where characters spontaneously break out into song w/o reason or explanation, and contrary to how they behave 99% of the time. However, the most recent new ep of China, IL entitled "Magical Pet" was an hour-long musical extravaganza. It seems like the songs were sung by the regular actors who do the voices for the characters (I can't swear to that) with the exception of a guest appearance by a talking gorilla named Kiko, who is voiced by Cat Power (Chan Marshall) an indie artist. While that whole suspension-of-disbelief thing that always comes with musicals remains, even when in full song they generally behaved like themselves: insecure, selfish, deluded, etc...

It was really quite entertaining. :) Plus, Pony is still a "chunky" little hottie (I'm quoting Steve's satyr girlfriend from this episode).

The attached two-minute clip is of Baby Cakes expressing his desire to be like a Disney Princess and have a "Magical Pet" too. To quote YT user Pete Helms: "This song is catchy as fuck." Though this is the song that lent the episode its title, the rest of the episode is well worth watching (even if you're just a casual fan of the show) since Frank's got a couple great numbers and there's an awesomely zippy song from a group of Bigfoots. :)

I've watched it over a few times now, both with and without booze, and the results are conclusive: China, IL, creator Brad Neely is a fucking genius.

Plus, to quote a redditer, Pony's got some nice "big brown tittays."

Let's talk.

Is anyone else as disappointed by "Halt And Catch Fire" as I am?

The first season was spotty, setting up some good story lines, but also setting up the possibility of a really crappy soap opera. IMHO it has gone full-bore crappy soap opera.

DEFIANCE!  Because Jaime Murray.  Though for some reason, there's a dearth of images of Stahma in her sexytimes outfit, which is pretty much as close to totally naked as basic cable could possibly get, and such that I initially did a double take believing that she might've been naked.  So here's a pic of one of her more generic costumes...but c'mon, Jaime Murray!

I finally got around to watching the first season of The Last Kingdom on BBC America and have been enjoying it. It's very reminiscent of Vikings on History channel, and both are much better than Bastard Executioner on FX, which feels just like Sons of Anarchy (same show runner Kurt Sutter, who's also Katey Sagal's current husband). If it weren't for the fact that there's a bit of side boob or ass cheek from Katey (or perhaps a body double) once every few episodes, I wouldn't even bother to record Bastard Executioner. Some think Bastard Executioner is a Game of Thrones knock-off (and a poor one at that) but all three shows (Bastard, Last Kingdom and Vikings) are more in the historical drama genre with some liberties taken.

PS: Katey's 61 and still a very desirable-looking woman IMO. :)

Other updates when time allows...

Adventure Time on Cartoon Network is back with new episodes... their recent eight-part special entitled "Stakes" was basically pretty wonderful by any objective measure. ;) Each part is only ten minutes long, and they showed two a night, so it was a four-night thing. Lots of flashbacks/new bits of character backstory, some songs (including not one but two different covers of the theme song from "Mr. Belvedere" http://forum.bearchive.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=9982211.0;attach=453857 to follow up on AT's use of the "Cheers" song a couple seasons back! :D), some fight sequences, and a fair bit of genuine humor. Some parts were even downright dark. Really, the people that write and make this show are, collaboratively and cumulatively, artistic geniuses (and that's not hyperbole).

I'm not too proud to admit: when I first heard the Mr. Belvedere theme covers on Adventure Time's "Stakes" (ep 2 or 3 of 8... I forget) I couldn't place it at first. It sounded vaguely tv-familiar but since I never watched Mr. Belvedere, I couldn't recognize it. Based on the familiarity though, and how it was covered (single guitar, warbling lyrics, semi-clever lyrics) I actually thought that maybe it was a Replacements https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Replacements_(band) song, perhaps from one of their earlier albums. :D

I like The Replacements. :)
