are there like copyright laws or rules against posting videos like this from YouTube...not trying to sound like a chump just don't want to break any rules or get sued

No Offence and I'm not trying to sound retarded...but I have been coming to this forum for a long time, but hadn't singed up forever, but now I am signed up and now that I have (and read the rules before I posted this topic (which was going to be the videos I have found) and told to read the rules again) read the forum rules I still don't get if I can post YouTube videos or other videos...I understand the whole 18 over...I just don't know if i can get in trouble for posting YouTube links here....nothing downloaded just the URL... I would love to show my cache but don't know if I can just copy and post URL's from YouTube.  Please be more specific

If an action isn't explicitly prohibited by the rules, it's generally OK to do. So yes, you can post links to youtube as long as the video doesn't include any prohibited models, sources, information, or subjects. Please use this link format...

         http://www.youtube.com/v/VIDEONUMBER

...because it suppresses youtube's "related videos" function, which might otherwise display prohibited content unrelated to the video you're trying to post. Thanks.

Actually, putting the link in the form http://www.youtube.com/v/VIDEONUMBER just renders the video in fullscreen mode.

The way to ensure that the "Related Videos" doesn't show up at all is to add &rel=0 to the end of the URL, thus:

http://www.youtube.com/v/VIDEONUMBER&rel=0

I appreciate the input, but we automated the reformatting yesterday evening, so the issue of related videos is kinda moot for now.

Only moot if the automation is using the correct method. Otherwise still valid. Besides, still valid for anyone that wants to post a youtube link without related videos on another site.

In regards to this "automation", does that mean that we can simply copy/paste youtube videos now without alteration because they will now be automatically changed to the proper format for the forum rules?

This gets into a particular detail of the forum rules... The forum management is only concerned with the first page displayed by a link: provided that the linked site generally conforms to the rules, then if the linked page doesn't include any prohibited content, we consider the link to be in compliance with the rules. The http://www.youtube.com/v/VIDEONUMBER format prevents you from seeing the related videos display on the linked page, so we're able to approve or reject the link solely on the basis of the one video you were trying to show us.

Sorry, I just meant that it's not moot to me because I found value in the info posted, even if the forum rules don't care about it being useful to me. That is all I meant by my comments. Though I can't remember the last time I posted a YouTube video, so....

OK, yeah, I misunderstood you. Thanks for clarifying that.

When it comes to posting these links at the BEA, the important thing is to link in a way that doesn't allow youtube to throw a bunch of potentially rule-breaking stuff on the page along with the video you wanted to show us. The /v/videonumber format fixes that.

Yeah. There wasn't any problem with the content on your linked pages, but I'm just routinely changing them to the other format now.
